Would you do a closing on Thanksgiving

I have not been asked, but I would think its happened, if so, would you charge more?

Years ago I may have and charged a pretty penny for this, but today I don't think I would. My family has to come first. If you don't have any place to be, no family, etc. then I would say go for it but make sure you are compensated for the inconvenience of coming out on a holiday.

Of course this is only my opinion. If perhaps you were called for a signing on Thanksgiving and were able to do it without any inconvenience, why would you charge more? There are some companies that give us business year round and of course, those who only call when their regular agents aren't available. My thoughts are that it gets down to one of three things, either you can do it without an inconvenience or you cant, or don't want to. There are some companies that can call any time of year and I won't work for them. Then there are some others that I would help out at any time if I could. However, getting back to the question, I just don't charge additional for holidays, etc. To me it's gouging but once again, just a personal opinion.

I would and have in the past. I've even had signings on Christmas Eve, Christmas day, and New Years eve. Everyone is different and you have to decide if it is worth it to you to offer your services on a holiday. I charge more for holiday signings.

We are in a business that offers a convenience to both our clients and their clients, the signers. For that, we charge a fee. So does every other business. Employees expect to be paid more for working on holidays and companies expect to pay more for work preformed on holidays. So it is not out of the ordinary to charge more for holiday signings.

Would you charge more for a refi signing at 2am (any day) than one at 11:30am? I do.

I agree with what Lisa said. Traffic is also usually a complete mess on Thanksgiving - so unless it's local or you are rural, be prepared to sit in traffic and charge accordingly. For me, it's not worth it and I am taking Wed, Thurs, and Fri off this week and spending it with family.

I would here in my area. Boise is pretty quiet during Thanksgiving and I'm not cooking this year so I don't have a problem if its not too far away. I would charge a higher fee do to the fact that I might miss the National Dog Show. But if I hit the time just right I might get to have some pumpkin pie while we close....

This year it's just my husband and I so yes

I'll work all weekend if needed.

And I would think that a holiday premium is not unusual - I wouldn't gouge but I sure would expect to get paid a bit extra for going out and doing this on the holiday.

Go ahead - call a plumber or electrician on Thanksgiving Day and see what they charge you - I'll guarantee you it won't be standard rates. Why should we settle for anything less?

I would accept one and yes I would charge more. When I was an employee in my former life, we got paid time and a half for working holidays. So no reason why as an IC it would be any different. And the way I see it is most times there would be no one at lender or title able to take a call if there are questions. I took a signing on July 4th one year and we couldnt get a hold of anyone when the BO had questions. So they didnt sign. LO VM said he went on vacation to the Bahamas from July2-july 9. Nice...

My very 1st signing was Thanksgiving 2007

No, I did not charge extra. At that time, I was a 24/7/365 mobile notary. Now I'm available 365 days but not 24/7.

Re: My very 1st signing was Thanksgiving 2007

If I was lined up in advance and had the time available, I would do a holiday signing (and I have quite a few times). I don't answer the phone after 5pm or on weekends or on holidays...so they would have to line me up in advance. And, you bet I'd charge extra...probably 50% more. I'd prefer to be home on the holiday so if they need me, they will have to pay me well to inspire me to put on pantyhose.
