Are we hearing from anyone in NJ? NY?

A friend's brother is unreachable: "anyone in NJ have any news on Bayville in Berkeley twshp. (by toms river) my brother is there & i cant reach him. The headlines just say berkeley devastated."

Mike is from Tom's River - I don't see him posting either.

We just got our power back in south eastern PA. My sister is in NJ and she did not have power. Just heard from a friend in WestChester area of NY and she just lost power. My Dad in upstate NY did not loose at all. Guess it just varies as to where you are. Hope your family is able to get in touch with you soon.

Heard from my daughter on Long Island. Roads closed. Power outages. She is on LI's north shore. And was without cell service for a while. My cousin in in Long Beach on the South Shore. I cannot reach her. I understand that is a disaster area. Long Island hit hard. Hopefully all are safe. The rest while tragic can be replaced.

I guess we have to adopt the phrase "no news is good news" for the time being.

I bet its the spotty phone service in those areas.

Long Beach was devastated, but it's all property damage, no injuries. It's almost impossible to get in touch with people on LI right now - the cell phones aren't working either. Something like 80% of the Island is without power, and significant portions of the South Shore are under water. I haven't been able to reach any of my friends there; family in NJ are fine, but without power. You can get local news updates for LI at http://www.newsday.com.

I have power, one of the few in my town. Trees down roads closed.
No damage.
NJ shore DEVISTATED.
Huge tidal surge pushed up rivers flooding areas never flooded before.
Do not know of any fatalities in NJ as there was plenty of warning.
9 million in NY NJ area with no power

I am in Syracuse, NY and we go very little, thank G. Lower NYC, and all eastern coat different story. Governor Cuomo very tactfully said global warming is here and we have to start dealing with it and we have to put or utilities and generators above ground. I hate to be political but global warming is here and these storms are here to stay. Darn it, in my lifetime. Way too many deaths, very sad.

It is very bad down here, half of Toms River is under water 90%in without power I think we were very lucky just to lose power and no damage. Right now its cold and dark in our house and my only contact is the cell. Towns have been wiped our, homes and boats floating in streets homes in the bay taking out bridges and roller coasters in the ocean. There are parts of the coast that people will not be allowed on for ten more days. All I can say is we were lucky compared to what did happen.

I think NJ got the worst of it. We had lots of rain & some

wind, but not much more than a typical Nor'easter here. Everything was closed yesterday, of course. There are some areas here that are flooded, but not much worse than usual.
I hope everyone is ok.
We haven't heard from Cheryl for a while, not just with the storm.
I'm praying everyone is safe!

Just heard from my daughter on Long Island

Was worried because cell phone weren't getting through. Not even texts. My daughter and cousin both on LI, NY.

Lisa is on the North Shore in Huntington not far from LI sound across from CT. No power is expected for days, maybe over a week. Lots of downed trees and wires. Of course trying to buy a generator at this time will be almost impossible. But they are safe.

My cousin is on the South Shore in Long Beach. It is a summer home. Long Beach was evacuated. A neighbor called my cousin to tell her that the front deck on her house was ripped off and floated down the street. There was 8 feet of water. I think the ocean met the bay. In a day or 2 when cars can get there she will go to assess the damage. A lot of damage.

We always anticipate Hurricanes here in Florida. This was certainly not something anyone would have expected. Just devastating. To anyone who has family there, I pray that they are all safe.
