Brother printer repair/maintenance

I have the Brother 8460N.
Recently, at times, printer will say it is out of paper, when it isn't.
There is also a loud clicking noise when that happens.
Any suggestions for diagnosis and or a fix?
Where in the world do we take our printers for repair?
Computer repair stores around here say they don't fix printers.
Another issue with same printer:
Printer is saying that the scanner is locked, but it isn't.
Auto feed for the scanner is working just fine, but it won't scan.
Any ideas or has anyone had same issues with a fix for one or both?

On the Brother website they will tell you where you can bring the printer for repair in your area. Another Brother printer problem - there are a few places on some pages where the print is lighter (or very light) than the rest of the page. Not all pages, but enough. I've put a new drum and toner in, but the problem is still there. Does anyone have any ideas? This is the MFC8680dn. Thanks.

Thanks for the hijack

Shouldn't you follow your own advice?

Re: Thanks for the hijack

Unfortunately we live in the age of throw away electronics.

Take everything out, the toner, drum, etc and look in it carefully for debris or a foreign object like a paper clip. That is what I found in one of mine and it broke a couple of teeth off a gear. Unfortunately it would cost more to pay someone to fix it that it's worth. In my case, I was able to take it to the computer lab at school and a student was able to repair it. The gear was eleven bucks. You might be lucky and it's just jambed, not broken.

I had a Brother HL 5240 die and I put the old unit in my garage after I purchased a new one. I thought I might need some replacement part in the future. If I have a part you can use from the old unit, let me know.

Re: I buy an extended preformance protection plan form

Office depot. I did that when I started this business. For any reason I am not 100% happy with my product I get 100% of my money back, no questions asked. My new printer cost me that sales for $359.00 cost me my return procduct and cash out of pocket $129. That included the $59 for my new 2 year extended performance protection plan. Got to love this plan. I have used it 3 times now. It has paid for its self every time. I know we all put a lot a wear on our printers. So I never buy a printer any where else and alway get the preformance protedtion plan. justme

Hoping I don't have to since it'll probably cost too much to fix. I'm going to try to get an estimate and see if I have to look for Columbus Day sales today!

Hi Misty, Had the same issue with one of my brothers & fixed it just with maintenance. Unplug power, Take trays, toner & drum out. Then I used canned air & blew all kinds of paper dust out. (I did this on my porch) Still had the locked issue & spoke to brother, easy fix there, just uninstall your software & reinstall. Hope this works for you. (My computer guy does repair printers albeit he's in Key West, he told me most problems are paper dust & toner gunk, he does the same thing -- at a price price)
