Chase closings/Unprofessional Notaries
Had a closing this morning at a Chase branch and the loan officer told me they can now “request” a Notary of their choice to complete their in office closings. Just this past 2 months I have heard L/O’s saying the Notary came with kids, Notary was in flip flops/Jeans, I had one tell me the Notary was clearly intoxicated or Notary just pointed where to sign without saying one word to the borrowers. Today I was told the NOTARY read every single word to the borrowers 2 ½ hour closing? No wonder they ask me for my card! It just amazes me.

Well that may be the case in AZ but I wonder if here in FL we don't have it the other way around.

That's interesting, a branch manager the other day told me that over half the signing agents show up late to their appointments and about 1 in 10 don't even show up for scheduled appointments. I imagine these agents don't get much repeat business!

Chase's norm is late docs ....not our fault.
We are continually thrown under the bus because of late docs. I received docs today for a 9 am at 8:45am. Appointment times should be set in a "window" of a couple hours. This business is just not consistent enough in most cases to give borrowers a set time.

Went to Chase and the loan officer told me she lost a deal because the notary told the borrowers this was a bad deal for them and not to close. So, they did not close.

Holy Cow. Will these people ever learn to just hire professionals, and pay them what they are worth, to screen them with a Skype interview, phone, whatever is necessary to know who they are sending out on these assignments. This is why there are 10 pages of instructions and many of them have to do with common sense which seems to be lacking in a number of these numbskulls who try to pass themselves off as professional signing agents. I just don't get it!

FASS just spent a huge amount of time in mandatory trainings to do Chase loans. All it consisted of was these kinds of warnings: dress appropriate, don't take your kids along, don't be late, double check you work, make sure you get appropriate ID, don't miss signatures on the 1003 and other HUD paperwork.
For me, it was a huge waste of my time. But it's scary that they need to say those things because it is obviously an ongoing problem. I get the same lecture from almost every signing service/title company I work with for the first time.

Re: FASS
$75 fee. And I hear they require notaries to wait for 1 hour at the branches if docs are not sent prior to closings. No experienced, professional signing agent would take these signings. They are getting what they're paying for. Unfortunately the LOs and the borrowers will suffer. But not FASS.

Re: FASS
I just started getting calls for fass signings a couple weeks ago, they have given me 5 in a week, and all of them were for 100-125, and 2 that are a little further out, for 150.(not to much further tho)
Then again my area is not over saturated with notaries, and the ones we do have, OH BOY. I will leave it at that..

And they believed the Notary, why? And the LO couldn't save
it? Why? You know what else "everything you read on internet is TRUE"

From what I have seen of a lot of these LOs
I would question how much of what they say is true. Having said that, If I were them and it were my sale/loan, I would be right there at the signing taking control and having the notary do nothing more than notarize. Were they? Or are they whining afterwards?
If in fact what they said was true, names should have been taken and they people should have been reported. Was that done? He could have and should have taken control.... If it were my client I would have. to be sure. I would have called the Notary out of the room, said I will go over the docs, you notarize. Is that so hard?

Re: From what I have seen of a lot of these LOs
I think you're right, Barb. It's about COMMUNICATION and taking control of a difficult situation when necessary. Docs going to be late, borrower should know. Or SS should know NSAs policy on receiving docs late. In fact, there should be a "paper trail" of such occurrences when the finger-pointing starts later.
Notary being witnessed by LO, borrower or whomever demonstrating lack of professional ethics/conduct . . . Say Something! It should only happen ONCE.
