what is an addon and how does it make the browser run faster. sorry for the duh.

It's a bit of programming code from a third party that gives the browser some capabilities it doesn't already have. Some of them claim to make the browser run faster, depending on which browser you use, but most just add features that aren't in the basic browser.

when i am browsing I get a message on the bottom of computer that says if i disable addons the browser will run faster? tx

Which browser are you using? The first thing you need to do is identify which addons you have installed and enabled (it's usually an option on the Tools menu).
Some addons can slow a browser down. Disable any you are not actively using, and see if that makes a difference. If the browser is still sluggish, disable the remaining ones one at a time until you find the culprit - leave that one disabled and enable the ones you want to use.
