Dual tray, another reason not to print and run

it seems that almost every file that i use dual tray on there are a few docs that are 8 by14 but print out as letter size. i catch them as i go through the package but would not catch it if i was printing and running. talked to techies and have no idea why it happens.

This is a chronic problem with me. I have to change the print settings constantly. I do a trial run with borrowers' copies and then see where I have to adjust. I believe it's the way the docs are scanned into the system, and you never know what you're going to get until the docs are actually spit out.

exactly. i used to think it was the scanning but if you look at the docs that are in error they do show up in the batch as 8by14. in the printing properties of the printer you do have to be sure that tray 2 is set at legal and i double check settings all the time. sometimes it's only a few docs but still the rechecking of every little thing gets old. just can't be rushed, ya right.

Shhhh. Don't tell Marian there may be an issue ...

... with dual tray printers, and that those of us who use Page Separator don't have to deal with that issue. You'll ruin her whole weekend.

Also, you don't want to mention that Page Separator will create separate files for letter and legal docs that are mixed in the same attachment, something dual tray printers don't do. That would ruin the rest of her week.

You funny Baby Huey......

but i don't know if my pea brain can even go there with a page separator program (especially if it doesn't work). sorry Marion.

Re: Shhhh. Don't tell Marian there may be an issue ...

I looked into page separator when you brought it up some time back. While I no longer am in the loan signing business, I do have a need often to separate pages. I was hoping that it would reduce the amount of times that the page size was missed. I was able to try out a copy at the school computer lab, and I found out the same pages my Brother software misses, so does Page Separator. It has to do with the settings the sender uses on the other end.

When you read the documentation that comes with the program, it is intended for people who do not want to go to the expense of a dual tray printer. It separates the pages out using the same method that the software does that comes with dual tray printers. In fact, you will find that the company that writes Page Separator is the same company that writes the Brother printer drivers. The only thing different it does is create separate files for each size so you can change the paper between files.

It's the software that separates the pages, not the printer. If you have your dual tray printer driver properly installed, there is no need for page separator unless you need to separate the pages by size to store on your computer.

I don't know what you have against Marian. Our laws here go beyond the notary handbook and into the statute books and are perhaps the most complex notary laws in the country. Whenever I have thought something she has said sounded a little shaky and checked on it, she has been correct. Perhaps you just have too much time on your hands.

***I don't know what you have against Marian.***

I don't have anything against Marian. She has something against Page Separator, and she tends to treat those of us do use it like we are anorexics at a nutritionist convention. Or, more applicable to me, couch potatoes at a body-builder gathering.

There is all sorts of problems with print and run. I have a LaserJet 4250. Does a great job. On some jobs there are pages that I get big black streaks across the page instead of print. Go figure. While in the same lender files it does not always happen, it appears to be files for the same lenders.. If that makes sense. Any how. I always have to check or it could be a disaster because some are pages that need to be signed by borrower. And borrowers copy may or may not be good. If my printer sees a page that scanned over legal size it prints letter. I guess no technology is perfect YET anyhow.

some of the technology just seems to be more work rather than easy and efficient. i long for the days when it was acceptable to print everything legal and go. too many quirks for this old broad.

I agree. The only thing is... that my paper costs are way way down. I go through 3 may 4 reams of letter size before I go through a ream of legal size. Letter size much "cheaper" and better deals. I think.

Glenn.....

you have always been a great tech resource. if i am understanding you correctly, if some pages print out incorrectly with dual tray, then at our end there is nothing we can do about it (the problem comes from what and where we received them). i know nothing about drivers but i have to assume the correct one is set up as the dual tray works for 99.8% of the time. just get tired of the glitches, but thanks Glenn.

Those black streaks can be cured by selecting

Print as Image.

Re: Those black streaks can be cured by selecting

I'll check that out. Is that an option? I never even noticed. Thanks bagger. But they are not consistent and only on some Adobe files. Why is that? I say not consistent when printing the same file again. I thought I was over it and then saw it last night. It was an "unimportant" page in only one of the two copies. I thought about outputing using the postscript driver to see if that helped the problem. It doesn't matter if I use PCL5 or PCL6 or the Universal drivers. Any ideas why?

Sometimes my D T does not properly select the proper size. I do this:
Thumbprint your file. Then Hold down the Control Key and Select the pages to print
Go thru the Ltr and notate the page # and print, Count the # of pages printed. Then do the same with legal. After printing your total page count will be the same as the total file.
Then go back an assemble the file. This takes a while, but you will get good at it.
Good luck.

Gerry, that is one way to be sure, a little

labor intensive but one way. i don't know if i want to put it all back together again. i don't know what would take longer but thanks.

with the Brother printers I use.
