Equifax: What's so difficult to understand??
Please refer to my other posting on this issue. Msg #434440
Today, I get the following from them:
Dear YOLANDA ADAMS,
In order to better serve our vendor network, Equifax is updating the W-9 information for all of our Closing Vendors. We are requesting that you send in a completed copy of the December 2011 W-9 as soon as possible. You can access this version of the W-9 by clicking on the following link http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf. It is imperative that we obtain this information as soon as possible to ensure your availability to receive Equifax orders.
Please email this information to [e-mail address] or fax it to (678)831-0447. Thank you for your cooperation.
If you are no longer interested in doing business with ESS, please let us know so we can remove you from our mailing list.
Thank you,
ESS Closing Vendor Management =======================
Obviously, they're not listening to us or their staff.

If their brains were whiskey, they wouldn't have enough to get an ant drunk.
I had the same problem with 'em.
Got the same e-mail today as you got.
Told them to take a hike and drop me out of their database.
Bet they won't do either!!!!!

Gee, I wonder why they want the latest W-9. Do they think that you've changed your SSN or EIN, and hidden that fact from them? Many TCs and SSs are still using W-9 forms that are outdated by at least two years!
In response to their REQUIREMENT for a new BGC from Lexis Nexis, I told Equifax today to just take me off their list.

I wonder about the W-9 thing, too. Seems like lots of companies routinely request W-9s for everyone in their databases this time of year. It's just begun...

Not unusual at all. It's an accounting nightmare at year
end when 1099's need to be issued. They want to make sure they're database is current, that's all. I don't have any dealings with them, so obviously there must be other problems.

Do you suppose someone hacked their computer and absconded
with all the W-9's therein?

The IRS changes forms frequently asking the same question differently. The training for IRS agents is on the new form, not old forms. Therefore, if the company is audited, the IRS wants the new forms for all independent contractors.

He only problem with that is that the W9 is not for the IRS.... it is for the company so they can obtain the tax ID and just keep it for their records. In fact, the IRS themselves tell you that they don't even have to use the W9 for this purpose. They can use a form similar to it so long as the it is similar in format and purpose. It says so right on the form, "If a requester gives you a form other than Form W-9 to request your TIN, you must use the requester’s form if it is substantially similar to this Form W-9."

The only calls I was getting from them were for closings 4+ hours away. Then they had the nerve to ask for a new BGC and wanted ME to pay for it? I think not. I told them to remove me as well.

Got that email as well. They keep calling me to do signings even though I tell told them via email and rep to take me out of their database.

Question would be if you did any work for them this year &
if they'd know where to send a 1099 at year end.

Re: Question would be if you did any work for them this year &
I understand all that. However, I haven't worked with them since 2010.
Surely, they can't be that behind in their compliance work. Can they?

No, and you certainly wouldn't supply info to someone you
have no interest in working for. I was just pointing out that sometimes there are valid reasons for asking for updated info.
