FedEx boxes being removed from Post Offices?
Saw on another site where this is happening. Hope there's an alternative for our folks in rural areas.

I hope there is an alternative. I'm rural where I live. While I have access to some drop boxes, the nearest FedEx/Kinkos is 30 minutes away - one way.

UPS has systematically reduced locations of their drop boxes
relying more heavily on UPS franchise locations, time is money, gas going up. Expect to see rise in shipping.
I used an overnight express box last night (NORCO), last PU 8pm for a 6pm signing I did here in SB.
UPS and FEDEX probably experiencing some business loss to ONTRAC, GSO and NORCO due to rising costs.

It makes no sense for the Post Office ...
... which is confronting declining revenue, to offer its major competition prime locations.

Yeah, I've always wondered why USPS would allow FedEx to place boxes right outside their offices like that. It always made me laugh. It's like saying, "Here, take our business!"

Re: It makes no sense for the Post Office ...
What I can't understand is why the post office can't learn to track packages, like they promise to do (for an additional fee). My experience is that the post office is about as good as the others at delivering the packages, but the tracking doesn't say anything about where the package is until the day after it's delivered.

I'm surprised it took them so long to figure this out.

Actually, it does. Not sure of the current status, but Fedex
and USPS had a cooperative arrangement. Believe that it involved FEDEX tranporting USPS deliveries on their fleet of planes, USPS delivering FEDEX deliveries in rural areas, FEDEX boxes at post offices, etc Heard that it is being reconsidered by both parties.

Yes. That is the case my husband works for a scheduled passenger airline and prior to 9-11 a considerable amount of mail was carried by US. CO. UA. F9 and the like. Now the airlines carry minimal USPS mail and it is handled (at least locally) on FedEx planes

Except for the fact that it is being reconsidered by both parties, that is what I heard ata Fedex today. They are in a cooperative arrangement that has worked well for them. Maybe not as well as they had hoped.
