It just makes me laugh...

That the way I find out that my renewal commission has been processed isn't because I got my package from the Sec of State... oh no....

It's a letter from the XYZ saying, "Congratulations.... blah blah blah.... be sure to get your bond and stamp and supplies RIGHT NOW... from us, please." Yeah, no thanks. I buy my stuff from Notary Rotary, thank you very much. Smile

Those guys are fast with the mailers!

Out of curiosity, I pulled down the most recent list from the state, and sure enough, my name is there twice... with the current commission listed, and the new one listed right above it, with the new number.

So, for you CA notaries waiting on the renewals... once you it that 30-day mark, you might want to check that online file they post every day. Apparently it is updated everyday at 3am. IF they've processed your file the day before, you'll be on the list and you'll know the paperwork is on the way.

I always tell the Ca students that when they reach in the mailbox and you have ever "vendor selling you something" reach in a little further and the commission is either in that mailbox or it's comming in the next 2-3 days.

They do list all notaries (new or renewing) a couple of days before it arrives in the mail.

Check the processing time: the processing time is the day you have taken the test.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean anything for renewing notaries, though. They would have "processed" my file months ago based on when I took my exam, but set it aside for issuing until just this last Monday, which was the first business day within the 30-day window before the expiration of my current commission.

It's still funny to me, either way. I mean, I've been sitting here all week going... show UP already, I need to order stuff. Smile

Just wait... You'll soon start getting mailings from every company that sells bonds, E&O ins, notary supplies, etc. XYZ is just fastest out of the gate.

Oh, I know... thankfully we only have to put up with that every 4 years. The joy of public information. Smile

It's the same when you file a dba... the companies come out of the woodwork selling you stuff -- credit card processing, legal services, etc.

So how long did it take you to get your commission once you took your exam? I've heard 3 months and 6 months.

The CA SOS never sends anything earlier than 30 days before the expiration of an existing notary commission. So the only way for people to really have a good answer to that question is to wait too long, take the exam too close to the current expiration date, then see how long they have to be unable to work while they wait for their new certificate, etc. Not really worth it to find out... Wink But we CAN check online to find out our test scores. Part of that waiting period also involves the background check completion.

Something similar happened to me when I got my commission here in TX. It wasn't from the NNA, but some other company selling notary supplies. Looked very official, had my commission # and expiration date, and it took me a moment to realize it was just someone selling notary supplies. The real notice showed up in the mail several days later.
