Just another vent about low fees

AAAAAAUUUUUUGH! Accepted an order, from an SS that has previously paid me decently (although it's been a couple of months since I did one for them), but this particular order came over with their usual decent but not great fee ($100) and added extensive fax back requirements! Requested very, very little (just $10) extra for faxbacks, and could not even get that. Was told that they usually only pay $75.00 for edocs with these fax backs. I told them they had to be kidding!!!! (I guess that's why they don't call me very often: they have to call all of the low ball notaries first.) (Now maybe, just maybe, this particular lender and title don't pay them well, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.) In any event, as I'd already accepted, I did the order, but I won't do another similar one.

Then, at the closing, I'm told by borrowers how much better I am than the last notaries (yes, plural) who did their previous refinance. It was by POA and, apparently, no one could get it right! She saw 4 different notaries getting docs signed and resigned! She also said I did a better job of explaining things than anyone had ever done, even at their purchase. Obviously, the lowball notaries don't know how to conduct a closing or properly handle a POA!

Then, I get home and my in box has a request from an SS for NREIS to handle a closing in Portsmouth, through a tunnel at rush hour, with edocs, for a whopping $65.00. (I just delete all orders from this company.)

Last night, I went to Portsmouth to get one document, a note, resigned, because of a notary error by another notary. Apparently, they called me because when scheduling the single document resign, the borrower explicitly told them not to send out the same notary, as she had, apparently, offended the borrower!

I know Marilyn Wells and I are not accepting these lowball fees and I'll guarantee you Marilyn wasn't any one of the aforementioned notaries with errors and issues! Why, or why, won't lenders and title companies and SSs see the light!

There are days I feel like calling it quits!

Thanks for letting me rant!

My advice: Don't accept assignments from companies that don't value you or your services, but only want the cheapest SA they can find. There are many out there.

Just turned an assignment back last night (scheduled for this evening) as we couldn't come to terms on fee. This title co. is good to me and this closing has lots of fax backs. Only wanted to provide $10.00 for nearly the whole package being faxed (investment property). I normally get paid more than what this scheduler offered. I guess it just depends who calls.

There is a lot of biz these days, Mary, and we don't have

to play the low fees game. In fact, I'm getting more calls from tc's offering decent (not great) fees. I have a deal this afternoon to do some affidavits for a legal case & it pays $150.
Thanks for the compliment, btw. Yes, we are aware that there's some "shouldn't be doing this" notaries out there. I know that I'm getting a lot of positive feedback & thanks from the borrowers & clients these days. The biz is absolutely crazy right now, so holding it together isn't easy at times. It requires a lot of flexibility!!!! ;-)
