$30 case for LEGAL during Staples' current sale...
Buy 2 cases, get 1 free (also for most any case paper), and with $25 coupon it's about $90 for 3 cases.
Even without coupon, under $40/case during the sale.

This may be a good price by the ream.
However, it works out to almost $53 a case. Legal at Costco is about $48 a case.

Gee, what do you Costco people know that I don't know
Best price I saw on that site was $5.69 ($56.90/cs). Except I'd have to join @ $55/yr or there is a (undisclosed amount until I check out) surcharge. Isn't a Costco (or Sam's club) within 1/2 day's drive of here, so membership just isn't worth it.

The perception is that one saves money at Costco.
I couldn't tell you if I do or not on most things. We buy food and groceries, get prescriptions filled, buy small appliances there, etc.

Re: The perception is that one saves money at Costco.
I think that depends, because not everything there is a bargain, imo, but there are lots of things that ARE. (And I've heard their customer service is very good and I know they offer extended warranties on many items.)
What tips the balance for me is that I have a Costco Amex business credit card which gives me cash back. For gas, it's 4%, so that's going to be significant this year with what has been going on with gas prices here in CA! I don't buy lots of groceries there (just a few odds and ends that I've figured out are worth it), but I buy nearly all my paper there, bought my new cell phone there, new TV, external hard drive, etc. In years past, the rebate on the credit card has more than paid for my membership and I suspect it will be well in excess for this year. (I buy prescriptions there, too. It's pretty good pricing, but I don't think that counts towards any rebates.)
Last year, I also decided to try their Executive Membership for an additional $50 because it gave me access to a good deal on Delta Dental insurance. I recently found out that I'm getting a $44 rebate back just on that. That's pretty close to break even, but I'll be re-evaluating it for next year, since it may not be paying for itself (especially if I can find a comparable deal on decent dental insurance somewhere else).
Everyone's situation is different, of course, so we each just have to find out what works best for us.

Re: The perception is that one saves money at Costco.
I do the same Janet. Except there is a limit to how much gas you can buy that will apply to the rebate - I know because I have reached it before. I'm thinking it was something like $3000 per year. I have the executive membership and the purchase rebate on that pays for itself - at least it has for me. I have also gone through at least four coffee makers in the last three years - they became defective well after purchase but within the warranty period (one even caught fire) and Costco took them all back and I bought replacements at Costco. They have a great return policy.
