Lesson: Don't Farm out your work

Been meaning to post this a while back, but have been busy lately. I had to pick up a last minute closing from an experienced notary who made the fatal mistake of farming out her closings when she was busy. Apparently she had a great reputation with this SS, but got greedy and accepted ALL closings, and had her friend, who was also a notary fill in for her when she double booked. Apparently when title got the fax backs, and the notary's name did not match up with the recorded notary who was sent the docs, all hell broke loose. She probably was thinking it was okay, but truthfully, she exposed this buyer's information to a unknown 3rd party, and a huge breech in security. Not only did she loose a great account, but probably blacklisted herself with the lender and title company. Thought I would post this. The SS didn't relay this information to me, the buyer's did. Good lesson, never act as your own SS.

It's always been my understanding that we are not

allowed to sub-contract the work. There was a notary that posted recently that she got stiffed by another notary that was doing just that. The title cos. were not happy about it, and will probably stop using that notary.

That doesn't sound right. To give out work with out telling the client. I am new and my associate will give me work, but it is on a referral. She recommends me and then they call me, or I call them.
