Okay, here it is Midnight.
I went to this signing tonight. When I got there I looked at the borrowers drivers license and the first name differed by ONE letter from first name on the docs. GREAT! Although I reallly knew what I had to do I called TC who told me what I had to do. Go through the docs and wherever I saw the name single line... well you the the rountine.... Okay. Here is what upsets me. The Mortgage and the RTC had been corrected. Somebody had realized that there was an error. So the went in and fixed it. Borrowers first name was fixed on those documents... I know this because a different font was used. So why the h-ll didn't they fix the whole d--n package. Why did we have to sit there for forever crossing out and initialing all those pages, p-ssing off a very nice lady and her husband, to say nothing of yours truly? Can anyone answer that for me?

Oh oh oh......I think I know the answer (hand raised....waving wildly)......it's because whoever generated those docs probably gets paid $11.00 per hour......it was late on a Friday night when they got them......all their friends were waiting for them at happy hour.......and they said to heck with it......the notary will fix 'em.
Sorry you had such a late, crappy closing......hope you have a good weekend though.

LOL> Thanks PegiT for being there. I thought I was the only one awake at this hour. I think we should have been at happy hour but what the heck. When do we get to start writing quality issues? Never... LOL
Have a great weekend.
I am buying lots of lottery tickets tomorrow and if I win... well I'll be in touch.

Barb~ ran into similar tonight - got called out at 9 p.m. (had to get out of my PJ's!!!) because the 7 p.m. notary left because of annoying children and was very rude to the BO's. I just got home at 1:15 a.m. (but was paid very healthily for the late night signing). Enough whining on my part! I see a nap in my future tomorrow afternoon! :I(
Anyway, the docs all had the street name misspelled which obviously isn't as bad as the I.D. situation you ran into. How annoying was that!!! I fortunately didn't have to change and initial each doc because of the errors document in the package per call to signing contact.
AND the BO's were very, very polite and appreciative for my late night arrival.

Perhaps the person who fixed some of the documents only had access to those documents, and did not have access to the others. Or maybe at the time the problem was found, some of the documents were in text form (Microsoft Word or equivalent) and others were images. The person doing the fixing might have done a search-and-replace and fixed everything that was in text form, but since images often can't be searched, didn't find those problems.

ALL DOCS had the incorrect spelling of the address: Bently and should have been Bentley. Interesting explanation however. Wasn't aware of the images.

Re: Karla, 1:15am! so what date did they sign RTC? sounds like
You are right Donna & I've had a few of those. I continue signing with the same date as the doc's - that is correct right?
Regarding their reputation, I discussed their not-so-great not/rot payment history with the hiring person from Global. She was pretty adamant in her discussion for the reasoning and indicated that even though they have paid notaries on time, the notaries fail to indicate so in the comments. That notaries only comment when they are NOT paid on time. She gave me her word that they would pay on time (they pay on the 20th of the FOLLOWING month of the signing - so I will get paid in November). I told her that I would post in not/rot a positive comment if in fact she does pay on time as promised. Film at 11!!!!! They did require a bit of hand holding, but I'm thinking it was because the notary earlier that day walked out because of a crying baby and the mom attending to another young child at the signing. YES, that can be frustrating but who are we to tell a parent how to tend to their children?!! They can't lock them in a closet for an hour while doing the signing! A babysitter would be nice, but who's to say they can afford one! right?

Re: Karla, 1:15am! so what date did they sign RTC? sounds like
I had one lady walk away from the signing table for an hour to give her daughter a bath. I was tempted to leave that signing, but waited for her and finished it.
Next time I don't know what I will do, but if it is an issue for the signer, maybe this was the wrong time to make an appointment for a notary signing. I can also say that in doing income tax returns I have said that having a crying child, screaming child in my ear, or child bouncing a ball is a real distraction to trying to put data into a computer and create a correct income tax return. I believe this is the same issue for a notary signing to avoid errors.
Only time will tell my decision, but I hope it will the correct one that I can live with for a future unknown event.

Sue~ I remember you posting about the woman that left the table to bathe a child - I am still flabbergasted at that!!! :O)
<<. . .maybe this was the wrong time to make an appointment for a notary signing.>> Sorry I didn't mean to indicate that the BO's had an issue signing the same date after midnight - they just jokingly commented on it. I was just making a statement and wanting validation that it is not an issue. The BO's have always been gracious and appreciative that I would come out at that hour.
I agree having a crying child is not the best of situation, but it is what it is. We run up against many different environments and have to deal with them. I just concentrate as best I can and check and re-check those docs at the appointment and after. I would also make the SS aware of the situation to CYA. For me, the situation would have to be way worse than a crying baby in order for me to leave the appointment.

Re: Karla, 1:15am! so what date did they sign RTC? sounds like
A crying child distracts the signers...especially the ones who thought the signing would only take 30 minutes for a Provident signing....sigh. I find in these cases I allow signers to sign one at a time and take care of the child...it may take a bit longer, but the parents are able to do complete the signing with less stress (point and sign if there is a RTC and read the docs after I leave). In this case, I would do the notarizations later and not at the table. If I were to try to explain a document, it would probably not be heard because of the distraction of the children.
For tax returns, the IRS does not consider a crying child a good reason not to get correct name, address, ssn, age of birth, EIN for w-2's, or other key information a good reason not to get it right as an electronically filed tax return is rejected making more work to find the error and correct it. Also, if people work for store front tax service companies the preparer is judged on how much time it takes to get the return completed correctly. Imagine if title companies judged notaries based on how much time it takes to get a signing package completed and reduces fees if we take too long? A major distraction of a crying child makes for a lot of mistakes (this really happened to me, including the 8 year old child bouncing a ball in my ear).
