Paper update

Had a signing with a woman who works at this huge law firm; so I took the opportunity to ask her what I have wondered occasionally: Where do law firms get their legal-size paper? Like is there some secret source? She said that as far as she knows, the only industry that still uses legal size paper is the lending industry. She said her firm long ago switched to letter size and duplexes whenever possible.

So here we are, victims of an antiquated paper-gobbling industry that still uses legal size paper for such things as a 5-page W9 (are they out of their minds?!?!) and doesn't know the meaning of both sides of the paper. One would think that with all the HUD and TIL redos from the federal government that they would have mandated letter size paper somewhere along the line. In fact, this is about the only thing Provident does right.

Goldgirl, I had one the other day that printed all legal. not necessary. Then I had one a week or so ago that printed on all letter. You're right, they have no clue.

Funny about the W-9: I look for those and the amortiz schedules If I catch; borr copy gets the 2-SIDE treatment. I wish the package would separate std disclosures - not to mention the dead sea scrolls of Instructions

I also think the most thoughtful gifts to small biz or SOHO folk are things like store club memberships, office supply coupons, or phone/internet provider gift cards. I really didn't value as much until being out from under Corporate. I didn't like to see waste there, either; but it felt different since the loss wasn't coming out of my pocket (:

I print almost all in legal, because

my last purchase of legal was $1.79 a ream, which other than my $6.00 a box staples letter purchase, for me is a bargain.

Re: I print almost all in legal, because

I think the best purchase a loan signer can make is the 2nd tray.
Because of Philip I have purchased paper cheaper in the last 2-3 years than I had in the previous 7 years.
Thanks again Philip!

Philip, where do you get a legal ream for $1.79?

I've been seeing a lot of files that print on all legal

these days. I have a dual tray printer, so it's a big waste. I do have one co. that requires all legal because they say they need it to sell the loans. This is a bizarre business--no standard requirements at all--just willy nilly from one co. to the next. We don't need all those extra pages on instructions for the W-9 & double that with two borrowers, that's for sure.
I do have one co. that doesn't sent those extra pages anymore. At least someone is smart enough to eliminate those.

You are so funny......because your post totally brought back memories of just two weeks ago when I had to close a loan in a law office and the entire time the lawyer sat there remarking about the legal sized paper I had printed the package out on and how I was wasting trees. After the closing was completed, he summoned the receptionist to come in and make signed copies for the borrower. After a few more minutes of idle chatter about how obsolete the use of legal sized paper is and a few more remarks about the poor trees I personally slaughtered in order to make this closing happen......she rushed off to the copy machine to make the copies on letter size paper......only after first asking me if they could be duplexed. The borrower said no to that one though.
