ServiceLink, 7 A.M REALLY!!

I am not a 24 Hr Notary Public.

Please call a notary that provides 24 Hr service.

Please read this forum.

I agree with first post of this topic. If the notary had posted her hours and terms of employment, then that is what it is. Asking her to change those terms without good reason (only person reachable and need POA before the signers spouse passes- while he or she can still legally sign) is a good reason for me (as this happened to me). Otherwise, I think the SS needs to read what the notary has stated as to availability.

Also, teach schedulers how to use a clock that tell the time in different time zones. I find this causes many of this type of call....

They called me right about that time. I get up at 5-5:30 though, so I didn't have a problem with that.

Here's an idea...turn off your phone

Servicelink deals with hundreds of closings everyday. I doubt their schedulers have time to check the specifics of every notary they call.

The amount of complaining that I read on this forum about the simplest running of a business amazes me. Put a recorded message on your phone regarding your business hours and let them leave a message! Then turn it off until you are ready to conduct your business hours.

Totally agree, notary/OR

Simple solution - turn phone OFF until ready to take calls. This is not string theory.

30 FAX-backs (and at 11:00PM), REALLY!!

I agree, Sue. We really are in need of BOUNDARIES in this business. If we don't set them, the "other guy" will - and we'll burn-out fast. Case in point: A SS I've just started working with (and enjoying it) and I are not on the best of terms. Why? Fax-backs.

Title expected within 4 hrs of the signing. First, the signing needed to be pushed back at the end of my day 'cause, what else? NO-SHOW docs. No problem. All went well. I'm home by 10pm. I'm now wearing my "admin" hat/night cap. Finishing up paperwork. And trying to install new software for my scanner so I can email vs. fax.

But software took forever and now it's after midnight. SS calls in morning (despite my emails) wanting to know "why I'm holding the docs hostage." Yes, I do want the extra fee for having to print off-site AND for the extra 30 pp in the package of "86" like the scheduler said. OH, and the biggee: The 30 pages of Fax-Backs!

We finally came to terms on a price but I learned a lot - and understand why $xx will NEVER DO in this business. There's entirely too much to consider when factoring cost of doing business.

Fair treatment cannot always be expected; but accepting what is unfair will be the ruin of our business and our selves. Rep said her phone was going off all hours of night because docs hadn't been sent. Did they know the closing was rescheduled for 9:00? Did SS choose to respond to my emails? Check the time; it was obvious I was up well past 12:00 am. Resorting to ransom seemed my only option. She said the cost of the job was already built-in - and they could add the additional to a different job (nope).

Oh, sorry I'm rambling, but SS said I had the instructions (ahead of the docs) so I should have known about the fax-backs. Does anyone read the instructions when there aren't any docs to pull? In my email, yes. . . . but what other reason do you go into the site's download area - except to pull it all down at once?

I'm marking this day. It will only happen Once. My terms will be clearly spelled out from now on.

Re: I had a 8 am SL "chase" closing yesterday I

In my area, "fitting them in" without a fight gets next to impossible - unless you want to hang out on the pavement for 2-3 hours. And then Guaranteed: One lane on rte 7 or 28 will be shut down. The more I think about it, it's not so much about the "hazards" of the job. It's the Heavy traffic and crazy congestion here that has my nerves rattled. It's one more thing we can't control . . .

I do not understand this. I assume that I can call a business phone at any time and either get a live person or voice mail. I do not assume I will always get a live person, but I also do not expect to call a business and be yelled at for disturbing someone who is engaged in personal activities such as sleeping, entertaining, etc. If you decide to use the same phone for personal use and business use, you'll have to screen your calls. If you do not wish to answer business calls after business hours, don't.
