Signing Central wish list
It would be nice if, when you click on a company in Signing Central, it would show you your private notes about the company if you have any. It seems obvious to me that my private notes will be more will tell me more about whether to do business with the company, or any special questions I should ask, than the overall rating or the whole list of member comments.

You have that capability. After you make your report you are asked if you want your notes to be public. If so, check. If not, make it available only to you. When you are looking in SC, you will see your rating on the right side of the company margin. At least that is how I remember it being.

When I read the directions, I got the impression that although my comments would be private, my rating would contribute to the average number of stars.
One thing I would want to be able to do is put in a comment about a company being desirable or undesirable to work for based on what I have read about them, even though I hand never worked for them myself. Since I hadn't worked for them myself, I wouldn't want my rating to contribute to the average that is visible to other notaries.

As it stands, yes, any rating you provide under the Ratings & Comments tab would be factored into the aggregate rating. However, you may use the Private Notes tab to record notes to yourself about a company. Those notes have nothing to do with ratings.

And the trick, of course, is remembering to check the private notes every time.

Two things would be helpful: 1) A default view for the tabs. People will obviously find different value in different things - the Signings tab, Ratings, Private Notes, etc. We could conceivably offer a default view by user. 2) Summary counts on the company page. For example, listing the number of Signings, Ratings, Notes and Forum Posts beside each tab.
I'll continue to think about it, but we have a lot of things that need addressed first. (Like assigning higher values/weights to more current ratings. As many people have pointed out, old ratings are skewing many of the aggregates away from a company's current reputation.)

Signing Central is a great feature & one of the most
important resources in our industry. Thanks, Harry & staff for providing us with a place to report experiences, b/g/u/ with these companies.
