Straight up from the horse's mouth

Response to an email I sent to a scheduler at LSI.

I understand that. Sometime we have trouble scheduling and then we don’t receive the info until the morning of! Sometimes the bank or deed prep don’t get corrected docs to us in time. It can be quite chaotic.

I did not receive documents to print, they went to the branch. I was scheduled at one branch further away than where the borrowers were waiting for me. I was half hour late because I had to double back to their location and sign.

It was a horrible day that only began on a crazy note due to logistics. I sure hope this business gets better. I am now waiting for documents that are late for a 12:15 signing.

So, folks, my new policy is that if I don't have documents at least two hours before the signing, I will be contacting title/escrow and the borrower to let them know I don't have documents and therefore will not be able to keep this time slow open and will reschedule when the documents have arrived.

I was in a Chase branch yesterday signing a client for whom I received documents FIVE MINUTES before the event. My office is only four blocks away from the branch, but still, my BP was up so high I could hardly see straight. The LO and the client were very understanding that I was almost 15 minutes late.

The LO told me after the signing that there is a big push on getting as many loans closed this week as possible so they don't have to start all over with new updated financial information from the borrower. Also, the lender has to take a hit on the rate if the loan does not close before monthend.

It's all about them, not about us. But I am not going to let this strategy ruin the rest of my signing week, which is today. I'm done with late docs. I have everything I need today, Thank God, I had three this week for which docs never showed up or were at the 13th hour.

I got home last night at 10pm, a full day of signings for lenders except the Chase file who did manage to get documents to me on time, so that's where I want to be for the rest of my notary career! I had 8 closings and turned down that many.

We have a choice, we can say no to late docs. Have a great day, heading out to the trenches shortly.

It is not...BTW cannot keep the TIME SLOT open if I don't have docs. On my way out the door for another action packed signing day.

Ms. Cheryl, that is SO true. After one DAY of late docs and 2 borrowers re-shuffled, my head aches. Won't do it anymore either. I'm saying NO to no-docs.
