That new notary form

Just did a closing for a Wells loan through LSI. There were three LSI documents for the notary to complete, unrelated to the loan and clearly marked as "for internal use". Two were to verify each signer's ID and list the documents (on a line only across 2/3 of the page, with no information about what documents they wanted listed), and the third was to swear that I identified the signers and included a copy of the signers' identifying documents (driver licenses in this case).

Okay, I get they want to be sure that the appropriate person is signing the documents, but good grief, is this overkill? Isn't the whole purpose of having a commissioned Notary Public handle these out-of-office closings because the notary's function is to identify the signers? I have not seen anything from any state's Notary statute that does not have that function as the primary job of the Notary Public. Even here in Oklahoma where there is very little instruction, that function is listed.

I wish I knew why this reiteration of the identifications has become such an issue.

IN addition a copy of BO ID.

I might just put a True Certified copy stamp and cert with the copied ID....

LSI does this consistently. No big deal...they're dotting their "i"s and crossing their "t"s.
