Update re: large package surprise - and a few lessons

I posted the other night (msg # 43849) about receiving a very large package, but being unable to reach the ss before the signing to adjust the fee. (That was because I opened the package late in the evening and the appointment was early in the morning.)

I decided - especially since this was a purchase - that I needed to complete the assignment as scheduled regardless, as the negative repercussions would have been too many, not only for the borrowers, but for me, as well.

Turns out I made the right decision, even though it wasn't evident at the time. In fact, I thought I'd lost even more by going to this appointment. I was on the phone with a tc client (who pays pretty well) as I was approaching the borrowers' home and lost the signal before we could confirm a new appointment, and I couldn't get any signal at all at their house. I just tried to put it out of my mind and got on with the signing.

Fortunately, the title co client waited until I could call him back. (Yaaaaay!) AND this morning I received an email from the ss client offering an addition to my fee. Smile The email was sent out yesterday morning, but for some reason, I didn't get it until this am. [I'm going to have to look into that... Does anyone know if GoDaddy is having problems again? I think I missed another email, too.] I never got a return phone call, just an email that arrived almost day later than it was sent!

Anyway, can you imagine what would have happened if I had just dug in my heels and decided not to put myself out or if I had tried to play games and held onto the docs until I got a response? At best, I would have serious egg on my face and at worst, serious, major liability!!!

Sometimes we need to just do the right thing and accept the possibility that we may have to take the loss. Depending on the outcome, we learn whatever lessons are appropriate and use that information for making future decisions. If I had never heard anything at all, I wouldn't work for this company again and would have posted the name here (once I got paid, of course... Wink)

As it is, this company still deserves the good stars they have!

One good turn deserves another....

yesterday i was asked to do a last minute closing, i asked for higher fee as had to cancel dinner plans, agreed. tc calls back and says it is rescheduled for today, fine, and they still give me the higher fee as i was willing to do last minute for them. nice.

Re: One good turn deserves another....

I'm new and only done a few so far and the ones that appreciate you are good as gold. Only been stiffed by one SS so far, but another added an extra $25 to my check and I assume it was for my diligence in working with her to get the signing done. Once I did not sign my full name (just middle initial) on the doc and recorder kicked it back (walk in client). I met him at the county recorder and waited to fix it as he traveled home. It was close to closing and after I fixed it I waited to see it recorded after he said I could go, I said I wanted to see it go through. He went to the front of the line to have her look it over and she said it was ok, he came back to his place and gave me $20, I said it was my error, but he insisted it was for my trouble. Go figure.
