Want cheap fax line
I want paper fax, not efax. currently I am paying over $60 a month to AT&T, whick is ridiculous.
I know that you can fax with Majic Jack, but have read some negative reviews on the service.
Any suggestions?

Why not just use the FAX service offered here by NR to receive faxes, and an inexpensive FAX machine to send over you current land line? No additional cost since you are a premium member already, unless you need to buy a FAX. I bought mine are the Salvation Army thrift store for five bucks eight years ago. It doesn't print, but I don't need it to print.

I checked with AT&T and my landline would still be about $35 a month after bringing it to the bare minimum. Long distance costs $5 a month plus 7 cents a minute - last month my long distance charges were $14.
I have an all-in-one printer/fax/scan/copier (HP Laserjet M1522nf), but no one has been able to figure out how to set up the scan feature.
I know if I could scan/email I would save the long distance charges.

Does a computer geek need some notary work done? If yes, trade the notary work for setting up the scanner for you.

What I use is not a perfect solution but it has been working for me for the last year. I can fax with my NetTalk VOIP line, which costs $30 per year. I did have to adjust the settings on my fax machine to slow down the transmission speed. NetTalk is similar to MagicJack except that it plugs into your router and not your computer. So your computer does not need to be on in order for it to work. When I first installed the NetTalk I successfully faxed a 25 page file (took a long time due to the slower setting) but lately I do have problems with a large file not going through, which is very frustrating to keep re-sending. I scan and email the file whenever possible, but once in a while a fax is required.
I receive faxes on my NotRot fax, which is extremely infrequent.

I use my landline which is time warner cable,i have my fax machine attached to that but only to send faxes. I recieve faxes with an efax which cost me $95 per yr, they go right into email, saves all those advertisements being sent to fax machine.

Joey I do the same by receiving faxes on efax. I use a Magic Jack for the fax or scan and email (depending on my mood and the type of document).

For what you're paying for an efax service, you might be able to get a Notary Rotary Premier membership which includes a free incoming fax number and miscellaneous other benefits (like significant discounts on supplies.) I don't know what it costs for a first time member, but I believe the rate comes down the longer you are a Premier Member and may be significantly less than your current set-up before too long. Might at least be worth checking into.
I gave up the efax service I was paying for a couple of years ago and haven't missed it. (I probably only get a couple of faxes a year anymore on my Notary Rotary number. I get a notification when I receive the fax and can download it from this site, sort of like a PM.)

I have the "usual" fax via my phone line with Brighthouse cable. This is fine for faxing a couple of pages. What I don't like is if it fails in a big file, I have to start all over again. I think.
For big faxbacks I use Maxemail which I have had since 2002 or 2004, I cannot remember. $17.85 per quarter. Plus I may add, the cost of outbound fax time. Not alot maybe $1.50 or so for 30 pages depending on the number of "tries" I would imagine. Just "the point" that there should be any extra charges.
I just yesterday signed up for Ring Central. They have a 7 day Free Trial and lots of offerings. I chose a fax only for $7.99 per month (up to500 pages) and found a coupon for 25% off for the first six months. (There is a 20% discount for paying one year in advance. Not ready to commit to that. Also can get additional 25% off first 6 months). I opted for month to month.
I tried it last night, sending a recently saved large faxback filed to myself. Worked fine. There are options to send. Email via a phone no. ie. [e-mail address] or go to website and send by attaching file through FAXOUT. or there is downloadable APP for desktop and I think a mobile APP. Like I said only downloaded last night.
Here is the link if anyone is interested in looking at it and this is the Promo Code AFFM0B256M
