Re: I won't start a signing any later than 8:00pm
I will take a late signing up until 10pm, sometimes later depending on where.
I'm going to kick in a late hour service charge after 8pm from now on.

Right now I'm only doing loan signings on weekends
I do close RM's for one LO during the week but those are usually 3-5 on a Friday...
Rules still apply - I don't start after 8 - in fact starting this weekend I won't be going into unfamiliar territory after 6 - we have no street lights out here and believe me it's black as pitch outside - people out here have multi-acre frontage with no markings, no formal driveways, ruts and hazards everywhere..
This area is not one you want to be driving in at night unless you know the terrain. So my hours are now no loan signings after 6:00.
BTW, I DO charge extra for Saturday or Sunday signings.

Re: I won't start a signing any later than 8:00pm
I normally only take appointments up to 8:30 pm. Sometimes I will make an exception and take something for 9 PM only if it is close by. Once I did a 9:30 PM appointment just because the loan officer wanted the loan to close that particular day (it was EOM) and I have a good working relationship with him.

I don't usually get many requests for late night signings, but I have had a few 9 pm signings over the past couple of months. I did not add a surcharge for these, however if the signing time was 10 pm or later I would probably charge an additional $25.
My profile does indicate that I may charge an extra fee for late night or early morning appointments.
I am really more likely to quote a higher fee for signings before 9am...I'm just not a morning person.

I generally charge an extra $20 for anything after 9pm or before 8am. That's on top of any other fees that I would charge, including last minute fees, travel fees, etc. I don't like to take them that late, but it does happen.

I took a 9:30 pm on EMO day last Friday. Got there and they borrowers had been at a Halloween party with neighbors. There 2 kids were wound up, running around and until they got them settled down in pj's and a movie, we didn't get started till after 10. Mrs was foreign and she was a talker. Sweet as can be though. I wish now I had charged extra and will do that next time its that late.

I advertise that I so short notice signings, but they are at my fee only. I add $25-50, depending. Call me 7:17pm for 8pm, notary backed out, have docs - +$50. If they check for approval I give them 10 min. then raise the price again another $25. I get a few this way, and I do not let them waste my time. Last night was xtra 50

I don't usually have to ask for it, and companies offer
extra compensation for later signings (like 8:30--9:00). I have many people apologize that I have to be working after 6 pm. I explain this biz isn't 9-5, is by appt., and most are in the evening. That's what I signed up for after all. The way things are going, we may be headed back to the days when they wanted loans signed up to Midnight. I won't sign up for those, and I'm sure there is someone who will. ;-)

Re: I don't usually have to ask for it, and companies offer
I'm a night owl and don't mind being out late, however it must be close. I'm done with traveling over an hour out in the boonies to a small rinky dink town out in the middle of nowhere. Just don't like that anymore. It's pitch black, no street lights, can't hardly see the gravel, muddy roads. Any direction more than 15-20 miles is all rural back road country.

I have done 11pm/12am signings. They pay for it as well. I dont sleep till 1-2a so Im cool with being out that late. I used to work 10pm-6am shift for 3 years at a regular job.

I'm the same - sleep very little by some standards. Best working hours for me - light traffic so can just zip about. Just learn to watch the shadows - they are sometimes harder to see at night, but I've found that people will stand in the middle of the street to guide me in.
And I do Love my mornings.

Re: I don't usually have to ask for it, and companies offer
I beg to disagree, Clem. This is a BUSINESS. We are self-employed business owners, not wage earners or salaried employees, which is what you are when you have a job (and a boss... ). I know I'm nit-picking here, but it's one of my pet-peeves.
I think having an "employee mentality" is at the heart of why some people undervalue their work. We need to think like business owners, not employees, if we want to succeed at this - or any other - business.
OK. I'm off my soap box now...

I agree JanetK. I don't consider this my job. I love doing this, and I consider it my business. Good and bad days. It is all my business. ( I love being my own boss too and picking my hours)

I agree completely, Janet. It's the one's with the
"employee mentality" that hurt this biz, IMO. BTW, Clem, this is a profession, not a job.
