What is going on over at Servicelink...
Had two early morning calls to do signings 50+ miles one way. Yesterday was one 71+ miles. What they cant find notaries closeby? "It says here your fee is $XXX within 15 miles." Its nice at least they ask me what would I charge to drive so far. lol then say "Oh I'll have to get that approved. Ill call you back if that happens". Never a call back. Must have found someone closeby.
Seems Im getting alot of calls from my regulars about traveling greater than 30 miles. Oy Vey!!!

you missed the point of my post. Its not about being paid...its about the fact they call me for jobs so far away. I have no issues with Servicelink.

You wouldn't want to work in my area Toni
standard travel is minimum 25 miles one way - and no drop boxes or pack-n-ship in my town for any carrier - have 30 mile round trip to drop package separately. That's why I have to ask the fees I do - 75 miles for a signing isn't unheard of.
Unless I want to send it via horseback, mule team or cow train - that we have a lot of..

Well I hope they are finding someone closeby to do those signings. There is no way Im looking to do 140+ RT for a signing on what I get paid to do in less than 15 miles. Im in Va, traffic is astronomical here. And driving 2 hrs+ can be less than 40 miles RT. Imagine having to drive 71+ miles one way. wow!!! And yes Im charging an arm, leg and kidney for it too. lol

***driving 2 hrs+ can be less than 40 miles RT*** That is so VERY true! I could see myself giving up an 'Ashburn' a time or 2 'cause the travel/traffic is enough to make me scream - and I'm just 20 minutes away!
I'd think some of these companies could easily code a Wash/Metro/No. VA map and find notaries strewn throughout the region without asking someone to drive from A- Z when we can barely get from A-C here in this area. Could the TC get multiple color thumb tacks (or a box of crayons) and highlight those areas where the notaries they need ALREADY ARE?

Out state ppl don't realize the amount of traffic here in our area. I'm always turning down assignments in Arlington Alexandria and Fairfax. I always get "but it's only 19 miles or its only 24 miles" yea but have you seen the amount of traffic on RT 28, RT 50, 7100, 66? No thanks! I hated commuting. Hate traffic!

A Servicelink aside......
sl does not call because of my fees and i can't get anyone to return calls or emails regarding those fees? national link has huge faxbacks, and my fee is fair based on faxbacks. and my fees for sl and nl are not the same for this reason but still no calls from sl, i don't get it. i believe they are the same co., but you could have fooled me.

Re: A Servicelink aside......
I do both. I have two vendor numbers for each division. Never had a huge fax back requirement for either. Matter of fact don't recall any faxback. Maybe just a signed HUD or if its an investment package.

What's on your application?
I get calls from ServiceLink all the time asking me to go 2-300 miles away. I've never gotten the "it's only 200 miles from you", that's because the counties I cover, are huge counties and stretch N, E, S, W. So I'm assuming they never map it out. When I filled out my application with them, I stated, such and such counties. I try to refer them to other notaries in those areas, if I know of anyone.

Guess they are going to start txt/email
Got notice they will be texting or emailing requests soon. Not sure how I feel about that.

Re: Guess they are going to start txt/email
Yup got that too. I prefer text. I have an unlimited text plan but limited phone time. Lol plus from my iPhone I can create events in my calendar right from the text or email. I prefer the text option though. Cuz if I'm on the phone, I can surf and text at the same time.

Re: Guess they are going to start txt/email
Yes they ask if you prefer text or email. I opted for text. Most of my conversation is done in text unless its going to be a long conversation then its in email or a phone call.
Texting, I can respond faster. Email I would have to constantly be checking or set my phone to auto check it every 1-5 mins. Thats kills my battery and uses up alot of data. So I hope most companies go the way of text (SMS)

If you do opt for the texting I don't think you will be texting them back to respond.
'Please note that your cell phone must have internet capabilities in order to respond to either Text or Email requests. '

Didn't we go over this already - a few days ago?
<<<Had two early morning calls to do signings 50+ miles one way. Yesterday was one 71+ miles. What they cant find notaries closeby?.....Seems I'm getting alot of calls from my regulars about traveling greater than 30 miles.>>>
No, they cannot find any notaries closer because they've lowballed or stiffed all the close notaries - that pool has dried up. The only notaries left are the professionals (that's you, ToniK) and they have to cast a wider net to fill the order. Or, they're tired of loan docs being returned with a bunch of errors, so again, they're calling a professional (that's you, ToniK).

Re: Didn't we go over this already - a few days ago?
I'd love to say I am a professional notary, but I am a notary in constant state of learning new skills. Since learning new skills and techniques requires an open mind and a wide learning curve, I will never be a be a profession notary -- just an educated notary who tests and applies new techniques. I keep using the techniques that work for me and not the techniques I find unusable.
Change will be us forever from various sources and directions. I hope everyone is ready for the 2013 unexpected changes.

Pool Dry?
Well, I for one have no experience with ServiceLink and I live on the border of 3 counties (off 28). Thus, my biz name . . . They haven't called me - and I'd gladly go to Fairfax for a fair fee (:

Well then maybe we should work together. Cuz Im always turning down work in Fairfax. Maybe I could funnel that work to you and you funnel some to me....

Funnel . . . No Problem
that's what I was thinkin' . . . when I'm out your way, I'm not loving my job as much. I mean you could miss a traffic light out there (waxpool for ex.) and bam, Late 15 minutes! (keep saying, "there has to be an easier way." )
