background check
Hi all, I knew the following was coming, but wondering if anyone had this happen & what you have done about it. I, like many others have always gotten my Background check thru the NNA. A new company for me has now requested a background check with CLEARANCE FROM ANY & ALL SEX OFFENDER LISTS. I do not want to get several a year just to please 1 company. I have always used the NNA because most companies I do business with recognize the NNA. Thanks for all answers.

I have my bgc through NR, and dumped XYZ a long time
ago. As far as the S/O list, maybe Hugh can give advice on that. LOL

It's been so long since Hugh engaged in even <inoffensive> sex that he probably would not be a good source for information on the sex offender list.

How can you guarantee that any background check will cover "any and all" sex offender lists? Does that include international lists, too? And, what of the lists that aren't public information?

Marian makes such a good point . . . and the thing is the current BGC frenzy has grown out of what was supposed to be consumer privacy protection (GBLA). Now, in addition to clean criminal records (no felonies), it's coming down to CHARACTER assessments. Where is the guarantee in THAT?! These companies are fooling themselves by seeking to guess what goes on behind CLOSED doors (or borders), out of public view. That's why "dumpster diving" and cyber-hacking will continue to be effective means of committing fraud: The obvious problem source is being overlooked and/or ignored.
Bottom line, send me your Privacy/NPI safeguard policy; I'll sign and comply-- just like I would do anyway (:

Maybe the signing company could tell you "who" to get a background check from that would include the sex offender list. Put the ball back in their court. Tell them to give you a couple BG check companies that you can choose from that would satisfy their requirements. May sure it is send to in writing via email. Just a thought!

I checked with the NNA & their background check does cover this area. The company is suggesting this site: http://www.notarypublicbackgroundcheck.com/ I just do not want to pave to pay for a second one, nor do I want to have get anew one every time someone says you need to have this one.

That background company charges an EXTRA $65 if you live in NY? Ugh. Kick rocks! Why would my background check cost more than the next guy in the next state. Geez.

I'm new and trying to apply to services and it insults me for that request along with a copy of my DL. Maybe I don't have the right attitude, but I reply that I don't see the purpose of the DL copy and my copies of my Calif commission and NSA are evidence enough of BGC. What are they going to want next? A credit report? Why don't they concentrate on education and training requirements rather than trying to screen out Charles Manson or Freddy Kruger.

It's been discussed before. We have risk too, and don't
know if we're walking into the home of a convicted criminal.

We have risk too . . .
and I'd bet they're smart enough to know NOT to complete a notary application (in any state). As you say, Marilynn we have a lot more to be worried about than these hiring companies.
Maybe if states stopped handing out notary commissions all willy nilly . . .
