Dox Print Quality

OK NotRotters! I've printed probably printed 1.3 million pages @ 600 DPI with my beloved HP 1200se LaserJet printer. So, the other day it jammed a page in a way that I've never experienced before. I thought my sweet HP had finally bit the dust. Fortunately, I was able to clear the jam, and clean my printer with some pre-treated laser printer cleaning sheets. After cleaning and reviewing my print setting, I decided to print a sample page using only the 300 dpi, rather than my standard 600 dpi setting. Well, what the hell! I saw absolutely ZERO difference between the 600 dpi and the 300 dpi in print quality, even while viewing the sample page under a magnifying glass. I assume it means that I can cut my print costs considerably by using the 300 dpi setting, rather than the 600 dpi setting, but what about overall quality and client preferences?. Thankfully, NoTrotters are very generous with their opinions regarding such matters. So, what does everyone think about the 300 dpi vs. 600 dpi printer setting? What setting do you NotRotters use?

300 dpi is more than enough for text - the human eye can't see a difference above that. Unless I'm trying to do something photo quality, I never print at more than 300 dpi.

Thanks so much for your reply! The 300 dpi setting will save me a lot in printing costs! ;-)

I just changed mine. I was using 600 as well. We shall see if 300 works well for me.

Signed docs vs copies

not sure what my dpi is but my printer setting are 1 - 10...for docs that are being signed I use printer 7. For the copies I print using 2.

saves lots of ink

Is it a Lexmark? My Lexmark E260dn has a toner darkness setting link that. I've just started playing with it.

300 is faster too:) I scan @ 200dpi-way faster & acceptable

for most purposes. I've had title companies tell me it printed just fine for them.

I've been printing @ 300 dpi for years without any issues. Like Mike said, you can't really tell the difference, so why not?

I do experience a quality issue (fuzzy) with 300 dpi when the file has been scanned poorly. But you can usually tell the scan is "off" when looking at it on the computer screen. When that happens, the fuzzy print job becomes the borrowers copy and I reprint that one file in 600 dpi for the signing copy.

I should add that if the printing is just way too fuzzy for that one file, I will reprint a cleaner copy for the borrower's copy set.

I changed from 600 to 300 DPI by going to the printer control panel. From there, I located my printer and right-clicked to obtain the properties menu, found the DPI output and changed it. For me, it was a drop-down menu. I hope this helps.

Re: Dox Print Quality - This is not necessarily true!

Google this subject and in some cases you may find it can cost more. You will still be laying down the same amount of toner. The higher the resolution the smaller the dots. Ergo, same toner (or minutely +/-). There are other considerations. But certainly not what you may think. Anyhow it is an interesting read.

Esssssscuuuze me Miss Barb!!! I didn't want to have to

research and work for it!!!! lmao..omg...what does that remind you of? It would have been so much easier if you would have just told me. I don't have time to investigate. If I wanted to, I wouldn't have asked...lmao

Oh boy...it ALWAYS comes back around...but really, I didn't want a literal answer. Just a quick one that the notorious techies on here might have.

You're a big trouble maker Barb...rotfl!

In case anyone has not

figured it out, I am not a printing guru by any stretch of anyone's imagination. I am not trying to pretend I am anything that I am not. I have done a lot of reading (1) because I find it interesting and (2) I have had a lot of my own printer problems lately. What I have read and come to realize that the variables also include the technology of our various printers (ie, manufacturers, models, etc).

Years ago I had an HP 1360 and when I got very busy I used to go through a cartridge every week to 10 days (2 weeks was a gift) I purchased a HP4250 and while the toner cartridge were way-way-way more expensive, I was getting many more pages. I think you know what I mean. The cost per page was way less. I believed then it was the technology. I started reading.

Depending on your printer Economode and density can be changed. It might affect the quality of your print. Different result for different printers and manufacturers, I would imagine. Right now I am using FastRes1200 on my HP4250 using PCL6. I like it.

From what I have been reading unless you are printing solid black cats going to 300 dpi is not a "great" solution to save toner. But there is a lot of reading. Go for it if you will. Or there is that software program I found by googling other stuff and I am sure there is more.

I also guess speed, etc, how the dots are layered, laid down, all that stuff by different manufactured and so-forth and so on. Do I understand this on any technical level. Hell no.

I do know this when you hare hardwired networked to your printer you will print faster than wireless. USB is slower than networked hardwired. USB probably faster than wireless. BUT if you don't see a difference or if it is inconvenient to do the faster and the docs come on faster enough. WHO CARES. If we could only put the speed up on the people sending the docs. That would be something worth while.

Now I hope my phone starts ringing today so I can start using this wonderful printer that I have. Have a great week everyone.

Barb
