How Many Mortgage Closings Do Notaries Do In A Day?
I hear talk of notaries doing 13 closings in one day......10 closings in one day.......notaries printing out of the trunk of their car. I did six mortgage closings yesterday and my butt was draggin' last night when I got home. It was a fun day though.....all the packages came the night before....I packed a little cooler in my car with snacks and water......and I made an adventure out of it. It doesn't always happen like that though....but all in all it was a fun EOM day.

If I got to chose, which of course I don't, I would prefer 3 a day. The most I have done is six, and like you I was dragging. I have to think the 10-13 a day folks are sitting at a title company and cranking out loans where docs are provided. I often have to go back to my office before appts to print late docs, especially month end. I probably average 20 miles RT per loan. And then there are those pesky borrowers who like to chat, read and ask questions! the nerve Donna

I'm with you & not out to set any records. I think it's all
about in "how" you do this. I don't have anyone to help with printing, etc., and have to come back between signings to print docs. I also don't "print & run", but put the docs in a stacking order, etc. I had appts. at 5:30, 7:00, & 9:00 last night. Had to come home after the 5:30 to print docs for the later ones. It was really tight, but got them done. I really understand why people set up teams instead of trying to do this solo.

I have done 13, but that was tight maneuvering/scheduling. I was doing a lot of Chase helocs and could do them in my sleep and 15-20 mins in the homes. Now I find that 3-4 per day suits me much better, and they still have to be logistically close to each other to eliminate back tracking, etc. I don't have the drive now that I did a few years ago, and my prices have gone up. I like being selective....it suits this old lady.

I have a goal dollar amount I need to reach each week, anything above is a good week and below is not so good.
I've done 12 in one day about 6 years ago (Day before Thanksgiving) which is my best if not one of the best days of the year for me.
5 loans is a hard day even when things run right, 10-11 hour day
If all 7 went through yesterday it would of been a 16 hour day (7am-11pm) and by the last signing I would of passed out at the table..lol
Like I said yesterday my phone was ringing from 9pm till almost midnight.. I was toast and it was just not worth it too me.

3 is nice. 10-15 happens, but it's really too long of a day.
I try for a steady 3-5 closings a day. Frequently I land in the 7-10, and very rarely 10+.
Honestly, I find that after 7 in a day, I'm less and less confident in my own work. My errors don't to seem to increase (I double check very, very carefully and only have to make a) but If I work super late, or have several late evening or rush closings, I hold docs and review in the morning before shipping out.

3 a day would be ideal, maybe 4. I have done 6 in one day, and that wasn't to bad either. But around here that doesn't happen to much, however my volume is gradually increasing. I have been averaging about 5-10 signing increase per month. This month I have had 8 more than last. if that keeps up, I am sure I will be up to 3-4 a day someday. lol. I still have some days that i get that volume, but not every day

3 is good for me after that I'm ready for bed or a nap as I'm bushed. I did 6 only once and I couldn't hardly keep my eyes open even though it was still early for me.

Back when 90% of packages were overnighted...
it was much easier to do a double figure day. I did 9 both Friday and yesterday, and didn't get done till after 11pm both days.
I was bushed, and still had to get them all ready to ship.
The uncertainty of docs arrival makes it much tougher to schedule, and I give borrowers a heads up at EOM that there's a good possibility that we may have to flex to a different time if docs are late. I don't usually like to do that many, but my favorite companies kept calling, so I'm in business to help them.
Whenever I think of how tired I was, I remember the dark days not so awfully long ago when I was lucky to see double figures in a MONTH! Better to have too much work than not enough, and I'm surfing the current wave for all it's worth.

I have to give you guys credit. I don't know how you do it.
By the time I get my stamps, pens, journal filled in, etc. I lose time. Then I have walk to my car and drive to the next place and start all over. I very seldom get speed signers. And even when I lived in a less rural area I encountered more traffic. The most I ever made in one day was $1100. That was from 5 Refis at 175 and an 80/20 at 250. Those days are long gone also.
I like no more than 3 in a day. Actually would be happy with 2. Even some time off. I think they call it semi-retirement.

I am rural so I have traveling to do. The drop boxes are far and few between around here so I always have to take that into account when taking closings. the most I ever did was 10 in a day and it was a 12 hr day..Not including finishing up the packages..I really dont want to do that too often..I average 2-3 a day and I am very happy with that..

I'm fortunate to live in a bedroom county with a lot of upside down mortgages; it used to be a bedroom community with a lot of credit card debt that pulled their equity out or had second mortgages....
A lot depends on technique, and right now, I stay very close to home. So I had three closed within an hour and a half yesterday from 9:30 to 11 and just in time to pick up my daughter from kindergarten.
On the citibanks, while they are initialing the pages of the mortgage, I fill in the id form, I don't stop, keep everyone signing, no dilly dallying. Chase are very easy to close, small packages when you factor in all the fillers. Make sure they have their licenses ready and that they sit next to one another. last night husband thought he was going to sit at the head of the table and I sweetly pointed out that my arms wouldn't reach and it would be more efficient for him to sit near his wife...he ran right over and said he would do anything I asked for his 3.5 interest rate.
then after dinner, I had 5 more, all close to home and docs all in. Only one unexpected road closure and home by 9:30. I don't use seal at table, I only sign and do that later under my quality control and drop dox next day. I don't run for drop boxes that day unless a purchase.
