How Valuable is Linked In to Your Business
How much tangible benefit do any of you realize from Linked In?

IMHO
Zero, Linkedin has degraded to just another Twitter or Facebook.

None that I've seen so far...however I suppose
my name is farther out there with it than without it..and probably a more useful tool than yellow pages. I don't get involved in the forum discussions there.
The majority of my calls all still continue to be "I found you on Notary Rotary" or "I found you on <<numbers>>"....none from Linkedin yet.

agree with Linda...promotes your name and biz pretty
good for a free service. I seriously doubt a paid subscription would increase any potential of new business.
Its nice to see whose checking out your profile though.

I have found LinkedIn has just reconnected me to a lot of people I have known in other industries/careers I have had through the years. It has been nice playing catch-up with them but has done nothing in furthing this "career" or my present business.
Also, in my case I withdrew my LinkedIn membership when there was that "scare" with passwords a while back. I rejoined again later on but not wholeheartedly.

Have to agree with Barb25 . . . the connections just seem irrelevant now. I know that word of mouth, networking, and all that can lead to good connections down the road; but honestly, I can't think of a way to be diplomatic about some of the connect requests I get (and wish I didn't), except to just cancel the membership altogether.

LinkedIn started out as sort of a useful tool, primarily connecting business people with each other - especially those you might have lost touch with or who have changed companies, etc. Now, it has denigrated into a mess of sniveling people who can't find their rear end with two hands and a flashlight. "How do I turn on my printer?", "What is a Jurat?" and on and on. There is one group called Loan Signing Professionals............that's hysterical - especially when you read the posts.
I need to just remove myself from it - I did however, locate one person that I used to work with about 15 years ago. Other than that, it's sort of useless.

Quite Valuable
Because of Linked-In, I found a site that educated me on how to do a loan signing, step-by-step. Until then I only had the NNA course which as you all know doesn't go into the actual specifics and isn't all that helpful.
If you choose the right Notary groups on Linked-In, there are some that have very helpful postings. You just have to weed thru them. I read them each day, nearly as religiously as I read this forum. Yes, there are a lot of neophytes with questions, just like on this forum, but you don't have to read those postings.

Not at all. The premise was great, as it was intended to be
as I understood it. But, it is just another FB or twitter as someone said.
I get requests from those I have never heard of, nor do I know how they even decided we could refer each other. When I give a referal, it should mean something - not just that we happen to be on the same site at approximate times. I just gave up on it - it really is meaningless to me.

Re: Not at all. The premise was great, as it was intended to be
Good points - and I totally agree. I do get some benefit from a couple of groups when someone posts a link to a good article, but not much more than that. I, too, have received dozens of requests to link from people who I don't know. Some just find me in the contact list of someone I DO know, then want to be linked to everyone on that list. I don't see any value in that. Others... well, I have no way of knowing how they find me (although some my be from here, I suppose). I don't think I've ever gotten any business from LinkedIn, though.
I was taught that you may be judged by the company you keep. Why in the world would I want to be "LinkedIn" to someone whom I know nothing about? On the other hand, it does sometimes help me learn about what's going on in the lives of some people I don't communicate with too often.
