Login vent
It baffles me why so many companies require a user ID and password and then email it back to me on every confirmation. I mean, seriously? Why bother? I may as well post that info on this website. It's just CRAZY!

I like it when they email my password ! I can't keep track of passwords for 100 different clients, especially when they don't let me pick it. I don't want to be calling trying to find someone to reset my password when I'm trying to print and get out the door.

I deal with one site -- not associated with real estate -- where you enter your username, and it automatically plugs in your password. WTF? What earthly use is a password if the site is going to drop it in automatically?

Hugh - ususally it is not the site that does that - it is
windows on your end remembering for you. Somewhere along the way windows asked if you wanted it to remember it for you. Only on your computer. I always say yes to that.

I don't think that's it at all
I'm NOT talking about the username. I'm talking about the password. The only way my computer is going to insert my password is if the site provides the password.
The whole function of a password is so that the user will insert it as a security measure. Where is the security in the website providing it?

Re: I don't think that's it at all
Am going to tell you again: you can direct your windows to auto insert passwords for you. I do it all the time as I can't remember all these various passwords, nor do I want to constantly look them up. This is on your end.
Perhaps someone else (Glenn, Jessica) can weigh in on this.

Re: I don't think that's it at all
My computer auto enters in my password after I tell Windows to remember my login and password for a lot of sites. There are some sites that won't allow it like my bank won't allow my computer to remember my password. But it still allows it to auto enter my login.

I think you're referring to the one's tied to the coffee
site & think the confirmation generates it automatically. Yes, it can be a PIA, but it's easy enough to delete. It's really not such a bad idea, because you have to login to access docs & do the completion report.

The Coffee site
Yes, and that lack of encryption when registering makes me uncomfortable. I slacked off some with the SCs tied into their network because of it. Here is an email I received from Mr. Morin in July of this year when I expressed my concern:
<When creating a profile or registering that profile at a Notary Software site you will see your username and password as that is how the system was designed. However, once you profile is created and you use the login module to access a site your password will be masked with bullets for the characters. We just started the process of redeveloping the software and masking the password will be changed in the next version.

I don't know . . . I was always led to believe that No https - No Go!
HTTPS is our Friend (: (Hah, maybe it's about as safe/secure as the all-mysterious "BGC"!!

Re: The Coffee site
https does an excellent job of protecting the data from the time it leaves your computer to the time it gets to the destination computer, and also the reverse direction. But it does not protect the information you see in the address bar, so if you see your password in the address bar, it isn't protected. And of course if you are careless about access to your computer, or the web site on the other end is careless about access by it's insiders, all bets are off.

What is a Coffee site?

Re: The Coffee site?
It's another web site that offers some services that overlap with Notary Rotary. To avoid advertising a competing site on Notary Rotary, people don't give it's URL, but just allude to it. Only those who already know what it is will know where to find it.
