My Worst Notary Day . . .

E-Docs sent to me at 9:40 a.m. for Re-fi at Chase Bank @ 10:30 a.m. Not TOO bad so far but this is where it gets ugly.

My MAC computer (Safari Browser) is not supported by the SS's site so no docs pop up to print. I tried different things to no avail and then left message for the SS to call me. SS returned my call and tried to no avail to get a tech person on phone to help with matter. He then said he would e-mail me the docs AS WELL AS call the BO to advise I would be late.

I go the docs and he let me know he had contacted the BO and THEY ARE FINE TO WAIT FOR ME.

I show up with docs at Chase to find the BO's had just left!! The Chase tellers and bank managers were showing me attitude about the BO leaving and saying they waited over an hour. I explained what had happened with the docs; we then called the BO's and they came back to sign. They also gave me attitude until I explained it wasn't me that caused the late appointment.

THEN, I started looking at the docs only to find they were for a DIFFERENT BO!!! So the bank manager called to get the correct docs, AND they were printed, and signed. I did, however, have to tell the Chase people that there was no HUD in the package (they apparently missed it in printing) and to print a 2nd copy for the BO. I'm wondering now what else was missed.

In addition, my contact at the SS HAD NOT reached MY BO to tell them I would be late (I'm thinking he called the BO on the wrong docs that he sent me!!!). It is no wonder they were so pissed! They did leave in a good mood (or so it appeared). The Chase loan officer thanked me for my patience and kindness with them as she has been trying to get that loan done for "four years!!!"

When I get home, I had several frantic a.m. messages (none of them had called my cell!!!) wondering where I was.

I don't know what the TITLE company knows or doesn't know at this point. I feel I should call them to explain what happened today - that the delay was not at all my fault.

I would appreciate all your opinions as to what I should do.

Thanks.

Karla,
Stop thinking about this!
Have a little vino, a little cibo buono, followed by a nice, warm bubble bath.
Turn this on your PC or smartphone: http://www.soundsleeping.com/index.php
After a good night's sleep....you can explain, if anyone really needs an explanation.
Probably not.
Relax! Sometimes things are not as bad as they seem.

Consider yourself lucky if that's your worst so far...

more will be revealed...lol

Seriously though, Karla, you may want to consider getting either a laptop or a PC. MAC's always seem to have printer problems in one way or another.

If you're going to be in this biz full time, it's something that will help you in the long run.

Of course this is only my opinion. And I'm no techie, that's for sure. But I've heard people have printing problems with MAC's all the time.

Good luck no matter what...

That's probably a good idea - get a really cheap, no-frills one just for printing docs. Would be paid for with just a couple of jobs.

Cheryl~ We just purchased the MAC not too long ago so a new computer is not in the makings at this time - a new roof is though!!! It is so frustrating that companies do not support MACS. AARRGGHH!!

I understand Karla, but if you're gonna be in the biz,

ya certainly want the tools to be proficient at it. It's really not (IMO) the companies jobs to make their documents compliant with our equipment, it is our responsibility to have the equipment to get their job done.

It really stinks that it's not feasible for you to do right now. Maybe you could consider what was said above in that you could get a cheapo laptop/PC just to print with. I'm certain you may be able to get something for a few hundred dollars. You don't necessarily have to go all out...

Just sayin...

Best of luck to you, for sure! It doesn't help with the stress factor, that's a fact!

Re: I understand Karla, but if you're gonna be in the biz,

Cheryl~ I had to read your 2nd post to "get it." Sorry it's been a day. My husband has an older laptop he occasionally uses for work. You may have just fixed my problem! And you know I have struggled for some time with what you said about it is up to us to have the right equipment. I agree and disagree. I understand the why we should have it but why can't the companies techs flip the switch (ha ha) to make it possible for those with MAC's to easily use their system. I know, call my a Pollyanna!!!

Karla, I agree with Cheryl. I have a desktop and a laptop for backup. I also have a duel tray laser printer and a backup laster printer. I also have a injet for copies. You do need backup equipment, my has saved my but more than once.

Thanks buddy, I'm beginning to get the bigger picture. I appreciate being prepared for the what if's. I am working on stealing my husband's laptop away from him!! :O) I only have the one laser printer (for docs) and an HP for scan, fax, copy. So far it has served me well. The issue with the MAC and not all companies supporting it is my big project now. Hence, stealing my husband's laptop!!! ha ha

Thanks for your info.

Sounds stressful. I had a closing the other week where I nearly ran out of toner - and didn't have a spare (I know, Dumb) . . . then I was running around a suburban neighborhood a few weeks ago and couldn't see the street signs it was so DARK (and now that Fall's here, nights are coming EARLY); and the borrower had to help me find his house. I had been gone from home ALL DAY and all I could think of was, WHY am I doing this?

Tip1: Count up all the Smooth Sailing days (and if they outnumber the others - good)
Tip2: Have your home/office no. fwd to your cell while on appointments (can do remotely, just switch back manually when you're back home)

Re: My Worst Notary Day . . . happened to me friday

I thought if the doc's were running late we are to show up ant the Chase branch on time and the branch prints out the doc's for us.

That happened to me last Friday. No LO at the branch no one to greet the Borrower. Branch manager is so mad that she has to print the loan docs that she throws them at me. Then she called anyone to complain and get me in trouble. I tell her it is the new Chase prodical. She never greets the borrower. He keeps telling me how much he hates Chase Bank. He tell me that he is so unhappy that the other Chase loan he has he is going to fold. I tell him I am the notary and there is not LO at this branch right now to help him. I say so let look at the paperwork and see if it is what you want. He starts reading with a fine tooth come. This package had his tax's included for 3 years. Each set he says is around 30 pages. I am so glad I did not have to print them.

JoAnn~ So you got the bank attitude also!!! The bank manager was not a happy camper today unless that's his normal dark mood!!! So sorry you had to deal with it too.

I did ask my contact today if the "show up at Chase if I don't have the docs" would apply to me today - he said only if he has to escalate it does that happen.

Yes running out of toner during a print would not be pleasant! I need to order an extra drum but my hubby keeps saying it's a new machine and won't need replacement that fast!! He does not want to see this woman's wrath if It does! ha ha

Looking for addresses in the dark will come to full reality soon - not looking forward to that.

Karla,

I am sure this seems like a disaster, but you remained calm and got the job done in a professional manner. Way to go!!

I have discovered that when you are required to print from a website, you usually need to use Internet Explorer. I run Mozilla Firefox as my primary browser and switch to IE to print from a website.

Is your MAC partitioned to run Windows, as well as, Safari? Well, wait a minute, my husband, who is an avid MAC user, just suggested that you try Google Chrome and see if that will work before trying to partition to Windows.

Take a deep breath and exhale slowly...it is going to be okay!! :0)
Good Luck,
Tonya

Yes, thanks for reminding me Tonya, I did remain calm and business-like because I knew I had done nothing wrong. Plus, I always like to protect the BO from the crap that goes on behind the scenes that we notaries deal with.

Regarding my MAC and printing, the TRG site has a disclaimer at the bottom of their screen that says they do not support Google Chrome or Safari - that's why the docs would not show for printing. I talked to a friend of mine who is a long time user of MAC, she said MAC does not support Internet Explorer. So the only direction to go from there is what they did today and that was to e-mail the docs directly to me. The only problem is that they were the wrong docs!!! :O)

I have never heard of "partition to Windows." Is that something I can Google?

Thanks so much for the advice . . . I'm breathing better! :O)

My son, who is currently at work, is very knowledgeable about this topic. If your MAC has an Intel chip there is a way to partition your MAC hard drive to run Windows. I will ask him to respond to your question and tell you if he believes this is feasible for what you need.

However, I will also recommend you purchase a netbook for printing packages if necessary. We purchased an Asus Eee PC for around $250.00 and it is still going strong 4 years later. We love it! It is small enough we take it everywhere, and it also comes in handy when he needs to print packages and the other computer is in use.

Take Care,
Tonya

I have a used Dell laptop that I use only for bookkeeping. No web browsing or email. My husband partioned the laptop to run linux too so I can go online without a worry about getting viruses or other nasties from the web. It is possible to run more than one operating system on a computer.

Great Tonya~ the help would be greatly appreciated! We have two friends that literally talked us (I should say my husband) into changing over from a PC to a MAC. They have dual MAC's for their in-home business and they swear by them. Me, I was not convinced but went along with the program thinking I could be wrong. I STILL want my PC back!!

On top of it all, I am not that computer literate - my hubby more so than I, but his knowledge only goes so deep. You are the 2nd person to post info about partition so I am curious to learn more and see if it will work for me. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

I had a chance to get an I-Pod recently in a contest I won, but took the cash instead (to my husband's dismay!!). Now I'm thinking I probably should have gone the alternative route. Live and learn.

As I've posted before, our roof is priority right now and that is not cheap. So somethings are going to have to wait.

If something goes wrong, it is a good time to double check everything else since the stress will make you miss things that you normally have a grip on.
I like the MAC for everything except business. Most software is written for Windows and you are taking a risk by not having Windows.
Chase has a funny situation that many people are not aware of. The local branch competes with the national mortgage office for business and they can not match the price of the national. Chase is so big on customer service, that they tell the banks to sponsor the signings at their office regardless and many times do not inform the branch of the signing they scheduled there.
Many of you have had less than happy bank officers greet you when you show up, so you know what I am talking about.
If I get more than one situation like this, I will either demand a greater fee or I will only close for them on off hours or weekends.

My 2 cents.

When ever a signing goes bad for me, I email my side of the story to the SS, so when they hear all about it from someone else, they will have my side of the story. I type it up on Word first, and proofread it to make sure it is just right, because it will probably go into my file. Then if someone need to refer to it a few weeks from now (after they close the loan and get around to complaining) all the details will be accurate.

Oh boy don't I know what you said. You and I are on the same page when it comes to double and most times triple checking your work because there can be so much going on at a signing, especially in a public place like a bank. I usually keep it together during the stress and then fall apart afterwards like getting to the UPS store to send the package and not remembering how to put the air bill on the outside of the package!!! DUH!!! Embarrassing!!

I wasn't aware of the competition between Chase local and national. VERY interesting!I did notice today that the branch manager was standing in the lobby most of the time greeting people. I have never before seen that in a bank!

Speaking of higher fees for the additional demands - almost did that today but thought I was over-reacting and backed off asking for it. From posts on Not/Rot you can sure get a good picture of the g/b/u/ of signings, right? They are not all smooth and pretty.

Thanks for your post.

1. You are still alive
2. Mistakes happen
3. in this situation the best thing to do is calm down and tomorrow is a new day.
4.How many times lenders or escrow officers make mistakes. Believe me, I have seen it.
5. Got a new PC with Windows 7 for $250 ( out the door).
6. Be well.

Next time if it's a Chase loan, just let them know you will go to the bank and arrive on time and have the docs sent there for printing. I've done that several times, and the Chase loan officer doesn't mind at all, they just send the docs to the LO's email.
