Need 3+ stars or prepay
I am happy to do a job for a 3+ star company, any less and I will only do it as a prepay via PayPal which has not happened yet.

Why would you even consider working for a 1 or 2 star
company, regardless of prepay. All you're doing is keeping them in business.
The sooner they can't find notaries to fill their orders the sooner they'll be gone.
What a concept - SC full of nothing but 4-5 star companies!! A person can dream, can't they??

Re: Why would you even consider working for a 1 or 2 star
I wouldn't . . . generally. However, a 2- (yes, 2!) star company called last month to request I do a signing for them; I wasn't aware of them, but accepted AND told them of their SC rating after the fact. Not sure if it motivated them or not.
But they were fairly pleasant to work with, no drama and promptly answered my concerns. Better still, I got a NICE check in the mail today from them.
Gotta go add my first .02 to Signing Central!

Where is Herndon, Virginia?
If it's rural, we know why you were paid.

You're not doing anybody any favors working for companies who have such a bad reputation for payment that you need to have them prepay. Why would you even consider working with them? Stop right now, turn your head around and tell yourself you will never work for a company that forces you to use PayPal. PayPal is not our friend.

I'm new, need the business, and as long as paid up front, I'll take it. Not expecting many takers - if any.

The only way to guarantee payment from a deadbeat company is if the borrower pays you at the table in cash - which probably won't happen. Other than that, you have no guarantees, even with paypal because paypal can be reversed. The types of companies that you require to pay you up front probably only want to pay a fee in the range of $40 - $70. If you accept those fees, you'll never be able to command a professional fee of $XXX with those same companies.

Re:No sense in reducing fees for less than 3 stars.
I linked my PayPal to a bank acct especially for this purpose, so as soon as any money comes into PayPal I transfer it out. Hopefully that prevents reversing the payment - maybe not. But, the chances of prepays are low.

Re: Re:No sense in reducing fees for less than 3 stars.
Agree with HSH/WA, once it hits your account, and transfer it our of there. We have to pay the 3%, but rather than do that than chase the deadbeats to get paid. I do not work for less than a 3 star company, but if one called, and the deposited BEFORE the closing, and met my prices, I would do it....or get paid 1st at the closing table. If they have no money, I would walk out.
