The Closer, LLC - The $90 Offer... Yup!
I just received the call. And once again, I counter offered. However, he did tell me if he could not get anyone for $90 he would call me back. Wasn't that nice? Hmm.
I asked him to do a favor and not call me anymore with $90 offers. But I think I might have said this the last time.

I got $90 offer today from Mortgage Closings
They are highly rated in SC, so notaries must be accepting that fee. I countered with $125 and she said that's what she gets from the title company. I declined the job.

Is this the company out of North Carolina? I received a call at 7:30 this morning where the caller only got out her name and Closer, before the phone went dead. She called back another 10 times (yes, 11 in all), and I called her back twice, with varying lengths of time before the line went dead again. During that ordeal, I was able to get that they had a closing on Friday and would pay $90. I was asking my usual questions, but each time the phone went dead before I got all the necessary information to confirm. The last time was at 7:54.
So at 8:29, after I'd had my coffee and vented at my husband, I called the number again, which was answered by a person who indicated that "the scheduler" had problems with their phone, and the person I was speaking with had filled the order.
Why didn't the person in North Carolina call me back if she was aware there were problems with the scheduler's phone? (I made the assumption by the way it was phrased that the original caller was not in North Carolina.) The Closer in North Carolina that I found listed in Signing Central has 4 comments, and a 2-1/2 star rating...all in September 2012.
Could this be one of those companies using offshore schedulers? Could that be the reason for the early phone call? And why only $90?

They work for Boston National Title - read awesome postings
about that Title company. They don't have their act together yet, they are really new, owner split off from NOW Closings, but hope they will soon. Lady called me yesterday without even saying she was with The Closers LLC because she had called me earlier in the day about one and had mentioned it then, so apparently she assumed I would know her voice (!) Their were kids screaming in the background and one adult yelling something too. I thought it was a prank call at first. I almost hung up, but then finally understood her well enough to realize she was calling about a signing - not a foreign accent, she just didn't enunciate well.
They do offer $95 if you apply thru their website, and if the distance is greater than 20 miles they offer more, etc. We are all hoping that they will up their pricing soon (lengthy Linked-In discussions). I love Boston National Title and therefore will unwillingly work for the $95 for now, but I hope they get more professional callers and up their price soon.

Noooooo, please don't "sacrifice" for now...THIS is why $90
is becoming the NEW norm!!!! Stop working for it. They'll get the message.
UUUUUUUGH!!!

JPH13: Do I understand that you feel that working for $90/95
now will aid in "upping their pricing soon"? How so?

Re: JPH13: Do I understand that you feel that working for $90/95
I hate that this is the way it is, and I only work for them at times that better paying companies don't normally want. I will work for $95 because I love the title company involved, the docs are clean and early, and because they will pay $105 more often than not due to mileage being over 20 one way, but this signing company is getting more and more people letting them know this is too low so I'm hoping they will up their fee at some point. The owner split away from NOW Closings who normally pay at least $100, so I have no idea why he feels he needs to pay less.
Unfortunately, in my area there are so many notaries accepting $50-75 per signing that $95 is not an awful price. They are the only ones I will work for less than $100 for. I just can't afford to turn them down because it is $5 less, since they have a lot of business in my area, but again I reserved the more popular times for better paying companies.

Yes, the co. is out of NC, but they're using a call center
for scheduling. I suspect, but can't prove, that it's in India. NowClosings started doing that a few months ago. It seems to be the trend in that area (Charlotte, NC).

Thanks. They called me 3 times today for the same
signing I said "no" to. It was kind of amusing. We all know how crazy this biz can get. I wouldn't want to be those schedulers! ;-) LOL
