I oftentimes get calls to handle inspections. Got a call yesterday (sorry, didn't catch name of group) to do contact and photo inspections for several counties outside mine. I asked her what was involved.

Their client is a mortgage company. I would be expected to go to property, determine if it was occupied, if occupied, make contact with that party to complete a form as to who they were (owner or renter), take a couple pictures and send back to them...all for $5.00.

A more involved inspection, either surveying the property with a minimum of 7 photos, or getting a key, going into the building and taking more photos, all for the great fee of $12.00!!

I chuckled and said, I'm sorry but I can't afford to do that. Talk about working for free!!! What are they thinking?

I've been called to do these quite a few times. When I turn down their absurd fee, they counter by telling me I can get a bunch of these a month and make a good income. Doing a ton of these doesn't make it a better deal. Good grief.

I don't know which bothers me more--that they want me to use my equipment, gas and time for a fee that is WAY less than minimum wage and will take at least an hour from the time I get the information, drive, take photos, return and upload, (not to mention wait for payment) ---

OR that they're sitting in an office making at least minimum wage to call me to ask me to do it.
