Babylon.com
OK, I'm fed up trying to get rid of this virus thing 100% from my computer. I've tried everything, including running my two different virus / malware removal programs, several times. I've changed my home page & tool bar settings, etc., ect.. The internet is inundated with all kinds of offers to remove it; one internet company wanted to remotely take over my computer. Yeah, like that ever going to happen! Does anyone have a bullet proof solution for removing Babylon.com? (Sorry, I need to go take a shower after just asking this question!)

I had it in my computer and used "spybot" to remove it. Once I recall what else I did, I will PM you. But start with Spybot.

To see if the "babylon toolbar" is in Firefox:
Go to tools - Add-ons Manager - Plugins
and see if you can find the "babylon toolbar"
run spybot once a week until your sure to clean it completely as it is rather stubborn to get rid of.

Thanks! Is this where you obtained your Spybot? There is soooo many scams on the internet it's difficult to figure out who / what is the "real deal"!

I use Spybot, I downloaded it from their home page.

Cnet also has it if you are more comfortable with that site

Thank you sooo much! I had a much earlier version of Spybot on my old computer. I just never thought to obtain it again after taking the old system out of operation. I'm sure there have a lot of improvements since. I'll download Spybot from CNet after I finish running my MS Security Essentials.

The only way to know for sure that it is gone is to re-install the OS. Better yet, install the latest backup image of your computer you created for these very situations. It saves having to install all of your programs and restoring your settings, etc.

Well, I downloaded and ran Spybot after running MS Security Essentials. Spybot found and removed some remaining Babylon stuff along with fixing other registry issues. I'll keep an eye on everything to see if Babylon has truly been eradicated. Thanks to NotRotters for your suggestions. I hope nobody else has to deal with Babylon.com.
I need to take a long, hot shower after fooling with this stuff!

I backup the entire computer on an external USB drive. Unfortunately, the malware entered the computer between backups and I would have lost too much important data. It made me remember to backup more frequently

Hint: When backing up computer always run checks first
I had a hi-jacker invade my computer a few years ago. At the time I was doing the automatic backups on my external hard drive. Unfortunately, everything the hijacker did to my computer also was done on the hard drive because it was backed up before I caught it. It was a total nightmare. I now don't do the automatic backups and I run all of my virus/anti-malware scanners before my backups.

Amen to defragging the windows computer, removing old unwanted files, virus and malware checks before backing up the entire computer (including operating system) to a USB backup drive.

When running Spybot or Malwarebytes.com always use, "run as administrator". Viruses, etc are easier to get rid of and sometimes the only way to get rid of them is the "administrator" mode.
