Beautiful, Strong American Human Spirit
Once again we've witnessed just how beautiful, strong and wonderful Americans are when called upon to help their neighbors when they need it the most. I can't tell you how much I wanted to get on a plane and fly to Boston this week and help wherever I could. The draw was strong. I realized there are people with more skills and resources already there who are already helping above and beyond the call of duty.
Those of us from afar can help too. The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross and Blood Donation Centers stand ready to accept our donations in this desperate time of need. I haven't heard the numbers of people yet who lost limbs permanently or who have permanent brain injury as a result of the bombing, but I know there are a good many people who are simply happy and grateful to be alive today! Me too, I've been praying for them and their families fervently.
It's always difficult to hear of these travesties from afar and to feel to helpless when other people are in dire stress for the loss or severely injured loved ones . Tax day is always very painful for me. Not just because of the big checks I write out every year to the State and Uncle Sam, but because this year our Patriot Race in Boston was bombed and so many were seriously injured, three killed. A horrible attack on our soil, severely blemishing a timeless celebration of US patriotism. Nine years ago, my nephew was beaten nearly to death in New Mexico and my sister and I flew to a trauma center in El Paso, Texas where he was flown to try to save his life. For six weeks, Justin underwent 7 brain surgeries and was an experiment in ICU for neurosurgeons at this awesome facility. I wish you could see him now. What a blessing. He's tall, lean, handsome and pretty full functioning. There is so much power in prayer. So, we can give in many ways, from the pocket book, with a blood donation, or simply by praying for our neighbors. It all means a great deal.
Meanwhile, Boston and America is already recovering and healing miraculously from this senseless attack. The evil terrorists can never take away our American Spirit!
Tax Day for all of us from this day forward will be even more symbolic from now on!
I'm just grateful and feel blessed to be an American and to have so many brave and heroic fellow Americans in my sphere! Thank you, Bostonians and all those first responders, race participants and visitors who ran to help those injured.
You all have a great and a blessed day!
