go into your printer menu to properties then to accesories to set up your second tray.

Call Brother help line - they do help. Maybe 20 mins.
but gosh - faster sometimes than waiting for someone here. (Although I do see that Buddy came to your rescue.)

I did call Brother support. They told me I couldn't set it up so that I'd be able to print both size papers in one document.

can't imagine that to be the case if your printer is made
to accommodate an additional tray. I have good luck with the online manual. pop in your set-up cd as it probably has more info than the books you received. good luck

I had the same problem with my Brother. I bought the second tray and can only print either letter or legal, not a mix of each. Even within "settings" there is no way to print both sizes simultaneously. I wish I had known beforehand. In adverting they make it sound like you will have that capability and it surprises me that they don't at this point. If you find otherwise, please let me know.

I have a brother with two trays and I know that there is a way to set that up. I fortunately know and IT guy and he did it for me. There are a couple of different places to go to set up the right settings. Sure wish I watched him more carefully. Try going to every place you can imagine and look carefully at what the settings say. Seems he had to go to a couple of different locations in order to set it up. But it works great for me.

When you print a PDF, you'll see a setting on the pop-up screen "choose paper by PDF size" or something like that. Check the box when you print.
First you have to make sure your trays are set up and designated as letter or legal as applicable. The newer machines have you do this on the LCD panel on the printer itself, not on your computer screen (I had to wonder about that for a while when I got my 6180).

Depending on the model number of your printer and the type of operating systems of your computer, you may have to set up your dual tray in your printer settings. If you are using Windows 7, access your control panel. Go into Hardware and Sound and locate your printer icon. Double click and locate Properties, click the accessories icon, a screen should appear showing the settings for your printer. There is a list showing tray 1, tray 2 and MP. Define tray 1 as letter, tray 2 as legal and leave MP undefined. The paper size should show letter as your default. Your default source should be Auto Select.
If you are using Vista or XP you may have to define your second tray by adding the tray model number to the properties section. I have an older model Brother on my vista computer, so I could check it out if that is what you are using.
