Don't you must hate that! What's with cos. sending cks. to the wrong people in the first place. There are many out there who aren't keeping records, and just cash checks as they come in. I haven't had much of a problem, but there was a notary in FL with my same name who got a couple of my checks by mistake & yes, cashed them. The co. paid me, and docked her on her next assignments.

I just don't get how this can happen
you get a check, you match it to your receivables, you cash/deposit it - if you can't match it to your receivables you call the company for more info and/or send it back.
This just boggles my mind. Hopefully they'll step up and correct it.

Re: I just don't get how this can happen
Why would a person who runs a business match receivables when he or she may not know what the word means or how to do it. Maybe it is time to send that person to the SBA and SCORE to learn how to run a business.

Probably thought it was a bonus check for good performance!

I received an overpayment and called the company immediately. They thanked me for my integrity. Isn't that generally a requirement of a Notary Public? Integrity?? Shame on those who knowingly cash checks that are sent in error.
....stepping down from my soap box.............

If you know it was a VA Notary
Why don't you call him or her? It's the co responsibility to pay YOU.
