Interested in becoming a mobile notary
I just re-financed my home and had a mobile notary help with the closing. I have a job where I have extremely flexible hours and wonder if I could do some mobile notary work to supplement income. My question is should I take a class on-line? What are recommendations on this? Will I be able to do this part time? Is it a full time deal? Can I work as much or as little as I want? I live in Oklahoma and any advice recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Julio ~ Do your research first and then you can make an (almost) educated decision. This is not for everyone. It takes time and work to develop a client base.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Before you invest in any of the above, I strongly recommend you do some thorough research into the economy and the future prospects of this business. Unless you are in an area where there is a shortage of loan document trained notaries public, this is a difficult business to break into these days and there is strong pressure to reduce fees paid and increase the work associated with each assignment. Also, the volume of business available is strongly influenced by interest rates which, long term, are trending up, reducing the incentive for people to refinance. For example, when is the next time YOU are planning to refinance?
Even before reading all the posts connected with msg # 33325, you might want to start with today and go back (using "previous" button) and read almost everything for the past couple of months. That will give you a great idea of what's currently going on in this industry and something of an idea about what to expect in the future.
Like anything else in this world, there is always more to something than what meets the eye...

Julio, I am an Oklahoma mobile notary and have one request should you decide to follow through on this quest. Please, please take the time and effort to read the state statutes covering notaries. Not everything is covered in the Secretary of State's brochure. Title 49 is the primary statute, but there are other references in other statutes.
I've seen where people stamp documents which should not have been, or where the signer has not been properly identified. This is a serious business with potential serious consequences if not done correctly, and can cause real problems for the public. It isn't just a way to make some easy, quick money.

Thank you to all that have replied. To the poster from Oklahoma thank you for the advice. I would not jump into something without feeling some level of competency. I will do my homework and hopefully this becomes something that I can be proud of.
