Its getting more and more cut-throat
I have been a notary for well over 20 yrs. I'm proud of the work, I put my all into whatever the signing situation. These last few months I have been getting calls from the so-called SS requesting my service thru their co. at a ridiculous low price. I give them my opinion on their low fee. There is one company in particular out of Chicago that has called me 4 times. They are new in the business, however the person who does the calling informs me she has been a notary for 20yrs and this is a great opportunity for me to join her co. After the fourth call I told her I did not want to work for a low ball co. At this point she hung up. I could never understand her name since she talked so fast and had a Asian accent. My fear was it's a scam trying to get my info. So just beware it seems there are more and more of these co. out there.

Can you give us more details so we can be aware of this new "predator"? Unfortunately, there are so many newbies out there, they have no idea of what this business is about and how to make a living at it, they will swallow hook, line and sinker! I've had notaries tell me who've been sucked up that they didn't even know about NR, the no's site, and other sites we're all aware of, they just get calls "out of the blue", who knows how they are "discovered" by these low ballers.
Thanks. Have a great day!

One example: National Loan Closers aka LPS (Loan Processing Service) out of KY; schedulers tell you they are calling from LPS re: LSI-LPS, which is an entirely different company. NLC has a poor rating in NR so "beware".
Also, beware of ISGN; they were pretty good at one time, currently have a poor rating. Unfortunately, in this business, one cannot assume that a previously good company is still good. As has been recommended so many times, check NR ratings. jer/oh

I hate to say it, I love this board. You really have to dig for dirt here. I have a great memory board in my head, but honestly, the bad guys are outnumbering the good guys, and those once good companies can no longer be relied upon.
The no s site contributors does rate bad companies pretty consistently and currently. You don't have to dig as deep. We need some help from Harry here, if we're all going to survive the bad guys.
I'm not always in front of my laptop out in the field to check readily, and the android is not so user friendly while I'm on the phone trying to figure out who and what I'm dealing with.

Like you, I've been doing this for many years. My clients are stellar. They are strong, ethical, they don't even get parking tickets. The DRE licensing requirements in CA are so strict these days, you can't be in business with a flawed background. I've been fortunate to have only been scathed by say five companies that went out of business with a huge bang, leaving many owed tens of thousands of dollars. I was owed so much far less, I chalked it up to DON'T WORK FOR IDIOTS101.
Unfortunately, currently there are no set acceptable standards for signing service owners. There needs to be. Any one, I've learning, can become a signing service, so be careful out there. They get all our personal and financial related data, and we get nothing on them. It's pretty compromising, like telling the thieves how to take advantage of you. Young people entering this field as new notaries have no clue what they are up against. No matter what their level of education, they are completely unaware of the questions they need to be asking of the people who ask for their SSNs, etc. as they accept work orders from them.
It's a scary world out there. God help us.

I could kick myself for not getting the name of the company but she(its always been a woman of Asian tone) tells you she is out of Chicago area. The conclusion to the low ballers is they are not part of NR. Otherwise, why would they take these fees from the low life companies. If I had a dollar for the times I entered a situation and you could feel the bad vibes at the beginning of the closing but leaving the borrower with a pleasant smile and friendly good bye and thank you for making the end result a pleasant one. It's well worth the fee I charge!!!!
