Why does this not surprise me
I really appreciate you telling me to do a search for this information. Whereas I'm very familiar with this site, I'm not in need of navigation assistance at this time. Has it dawned on you that I did not find what I want using the "search" feature? If you don't have a helpful response, then please don't respond at all.

Doesnt surprise me either
but if you did a search there are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many topics, discussions and opinions on this very subject.

So.......
Is it too much to ask for people to be kind here? All I did was ask a simple question. I've been spending all morning researching various sights for a decent recommendation. By the time it takes to respond in a very unhelpful manner, why not just make a suggestion? If you don't have a suggestion, then just don't respond.

Re: So.......
First off I was being KIND by offering you a suggestion. But you're the unkind one because you're just too lazy to do an orange button search. Only takes 20 secs to get over 200 results of various notaries on THIS site who already provided their suggestions (especially at least 15 threads within the last 4 months) vs sitting here waiting for a response.
Wasted your time searching various "sites" if you had only done ONE function....orange search button....Maybe you need to take your frustration elsewhere. Not my fault you spent countless hours and couldnt find what you were looking for...

A suggestion - and some perspective...
Rita, you wrote one cryptic sentence and then got indignant that people didn't fall all over themselves to write paragraphs about something that many have discussed at length many times before. Think about it... If you'd provided some background on what you'd already attempted and why you were asking, you would likely have had a different response out of the box.
"Has it dawned on you that I did not find what I want using the "search" feature?"
I think that comment was uncalled for. Try to think about it from everyone else's perspective. I thought Toni was trying to be helpful, too. If you've been around this site for any length of time, you know that there are too many similar requests to count from people who just want answers dished up to them (requiring time and effort from the responder) to make their life easier. All you needed to do was let people know if you'd already tried a search. Not smart to offend people when you're asking for their help. Just sayin'...

If you want one person's opinion, I've owned lots of HP printers in the last 30 years of my career. Inkjets, deskjets, laserjets. I currently have two 4350 HP laserjet dual tray printers. They are work horse printers. I also have an HP all in one OFFICEJET l7780. It's a backup. It doesn't do enough for me. I have a Fujitsu scanner which replaces the need for a scanner. It scans up to 50 pages quickly and effortlessly. I've never had a fax machine that doesn't jam and require babysitting.
If you want the most bang for your buck, IMHO, invest in an HPlaserjet 4350. All in one is for low home use, not for the kind of biz we're in.
Hope this helps.

oops. meant the Fujitsu replaces the need for a fax machine. And it's portable.

She wants an all-in-one...
I had an all-in-one for years - now have an HP4300 with an Epson scanner that scans 25ppm with a 75-page adf.
And to the OP, yes, Toni was right - one search with the right keyword would have provided you with a wealth of information answering your question. The problem is people take the time to respond to questions, in depth - they don't want to have to say the same thing over and over and over again - that's why the Orange Search Button was put there. There's not one thing about this business that has not been answered a bazillion times - and the answers are right at your fingertips.

Thank you Linda,
I did a quick search and came up with over 200 threads and most of the titles would be what she was looking for. Took me ONLY 10 secs to type and hit search.

I swear by Canon products. I have two. My dual tray is a Canon 5950 Multi-function machine. My single tray, which I use all the time, is a Canon 4370 Multi-function. Both great machines. I always opt for HP or Compaq computers and Canon Multi-function printers. Good luck in your search.

Yesterday, I went looking for a new printer. Mine is driving me crazy as it is breaking down. Someone told me a price and a store. I had to go back twice because the first clerk said to wait until the second clerk was on duty. The store didn't carry it. I went to another one in another town, and they didn't carry it. I went to a different chain. After three sales clerks, neither of which knew more than I do, I gave up. They had one product that was a little more than I have with me. I would have bought an all-in-one if it had been available. I'm glad to learn here that I shouldn't get one, although having one might have been nice. I would be leery of the orange search button because of old posts being about machines that maybe aren't even made any more. I am very, very busy. It's nice when a person knows where to search and what not to look for.

Lovely Rita, Meter Maid --
Did it ever occur to you to go to a store as talk to a real live person, explain what it is you are looking for and why and get a discussion going? Or go to CNET.com and see what they think is the latest, greatest for what you are attempting to do?
Again - the orange search button will give you a wealth of options as well. Once you decide on a manufacturer, then use the orange search button and see if there is someone using that particular machine and what they think of it?
Since you probably don't like my post either, perhaps you will like this, something I searched for:

Re: Lovely Rita, Meter Maid --
Yes. I spoke with someone from HP (via online chat). I asked for exactly what I wanted and he suggested a printer for about $1,200.00. I just felt that my "friends" here could be more helpful. I also searched here (first) and couldn't find exactly what I wanted. Also called a friend who is in the business, but not quite what I wanted. Just thought that someone here could be helpful (possibly with another brand). Didn't think I would get attacked. I've been called lazy and now being called out of my name by you. I'm now at a loss for words. This site is so disappointing.

find some humor here. Most do not use an all in one
If one part goes bad, sometimes the whole machine is valueless, except as an anchor.
I have Brother printers, love them. I also have Scan Snap, and I don't fax. . . just not happening. I have Brother 6180 on my wish list, if business ever picks up or I start something else where I will need a printer, which is highly unlikely.
If a company absolutely insists on fax backs and will not let me send scanned images, then I will scan to NotRot fax, then fax. So far, only very low tech people have wanted faxes from me, ie, State of Florida. They don't like scans or emails.
Just one person's opinion. Go to Cnet.com for comprehensive comparisons by price range. Don't go by my opinion, find facts. Also, there are consumables involved here - make sure you will be comfortable with those costs.
I am sorry your humor didn't attend here with you today - lighten up, develop a thicker skin.

While thin maybe in, thin skin on this board is out! Don't take it personally. We're really a great group. Just humor us...many of us just been around so long, we know the all in one aint what it used to be and it won't stand up under fire!
Best board around, and even better lately! Stay tuned in and tuned up!

I love my Brother machines.
When I started this business January 2006, I purchased a refurbished Brother MFC-8220. Loved the fact that it was an all-in-one -- one machine for one space -- and it served me well up until last year when the printer portion broke down. It would have been more pricey to get it repaired than to buy another one.
My experience with that MFC was so positive that I replaced it with an MFC-8890DWT. After a lot of research, I bought a Brother HL-5370DWT this past January. Got the 8890 from Amazon and the 5370 from ebay. Both new and at good prices. The reason I opted for the 5370 (besides the good reviews and good price) was both machines use the same toner and the same drum.
Once you decide which machine you want, shop around.

Works fine - but I've always wanted the HP dual tray...finally got one....and let me tell you, the difference in quality of construction between the Brother and the HP is phenomenal....

I have a Canon and have had many HPs and like both brands. I also have a Brother as a backup printer and I am not crazy about not only having to buy toner cartridges but also have to periodically buy drums. I just don't get that concept as you should be able to just buy a cartridge and put it in without dealing with drums.
Reply by BrotherOwner on 4/10/13 11:56pm Msg #465288
The concept is simple. With HP the whole thing, drum and toner gets replaced EVERY TIME the toner runs out. VERY expensive as you know. With Brother, only the toner or drum is replaced, as needed. Less cost.
RE: the Brother /HP owner above who now has both. I agree the thickness of the plastic has decreased over the last few years, but have you looked at the thickness of the metal/plastic in the body of new cars? still gets the job done over a long period of time. I would suggest that the proof is in the long term pudding, and long term cost per page, W/O repairs. Brother's claim to fame is its design of straight through paper path, nary a paper jam ever. The 8890DWT mentioned above is an excellent AIOne that meets the OP's requirements. Can frequently be bought refurbished (FROM factory with SAME 1 year manufacturer's warranty as a"new" and are usually $300-$350 range, less any coupon codes from sites such as Staples, Buy.com, PCconnection, etc as EMFC-88xxDWT. Duplex/Wireless/Tray(2nd). MUCH cheaper to buy 2nd tray as part of unit, not separately. It alone runs $105 to $150 if bought separately.
Lastly, I never disparage HP's, many people love 'em, they just have a alternative system to Brother's. Read the ratings and feed back, and make a choice. Good luck.

Rita Adu is a long time NR member...since 2008
We know her by "Prosperity".
I am not a butterflies, hearts, and pink petal pooter, by any stretch, but I think most of you got this one wrong. She's not one who asks for handouts in my recollection.
Rita, I wish I could offer a suggestion. I can't. But, I do wish for a SnapScan and I, like jba, recommend you invest in both a printer and a fast scanner because that set up is faster and more durable.
