Now that's different

Got a call from an SS to have some papers notarized in less than 2 hours. As she's talking, I'm trying to pull up Mapquest to see how far a drive. She says, All papers are with the signer, just go and notarize. When I tell her I have to figure how far, she says, it's over 50 miles, a 1 hour drive. I ask what they pay. $50.

So I counter with, "You've just told me I'd be driving 100 miles and for 2 hours, not counting the time to do the signing. But you only pay $50?" Yes, but since it's so far, what would you need? $150. Let me see if I can get that approved.

The different part is, after the time she had wanted me to complete the job had passed, she called me back to say, Can't get that fee approved; maybe next time.

Now that was a first.

Lenders, telemarketers, collection agencies, and signing services --where even the mindless drones can find work!

^^Not Nice^^

Remember you should never bite the hand that feeds you. It's a no brainer to not take that assignment, but I wouldnt do the signing for $150.00 either. If it wasn't for the lenders and in some cases, signing services, we wouldn't have as much work.

Re: ^^Not Nice^^

Not nice, but the truth. There are many GOOD signing services out there. There are many GOOD lenders out there. But there are always plenty of bad ones where just about anyone can get a job. SS's like JMT and Nations Direct....lenders like...well, you're right...I won't name names here. But I really enjoy the ones that can't even explain their own proprietary document to you. Or the ones who insist that single borrowers sign the top of the loan app even though they are not applying for joint credit with a co-borrower (basically constituting fraud). This industry can always do with a few more thinkers. ...Too many "auto-pilots" out there.

I agree that there are BAD and GOOD lenders, signing services, etc. The beauty of being able to work for yourself is that you pick what companies you will accept work from. A blanket statment like "Lenders, telemarketers, collection agencies, and signing services --where even the mindless drones can find work!" is not always true.
