His daughter is going to let me know the arrangements later today. I'll ask her where to send cards to. His address is on his profile and I would think his family would get cards sent there. Locate notary in Sun Prairie, WI should bring up his profile.

I met Dick a few years ago...

when in Madison for an Ohio State-Wisconsin game. We had breakfast and discussed all things notary. He was passionate about proper procedures, and was always providing helpful advice on this and other forums.

He was trying to improve and update the arcane notary laws in Wisconsin, and I hope someone will honor him by continuing those efforts.

One of the originals here on NotRot, and a genuinely good person. He will be missed.

I wish I had had the opportunity to meet Dick in person. I only knew him from the forum and e-mails.

Dick notified the WI network several weeks ago that he had been given a short time to live. He stayed involved with the network until about a week ago and we could tell he was struggling. He found replacements for the area he normally covered. It was a big area, he found 3 people!
His knowledge and connections were incredible. As a network, we have been working on getting the notary laws changed. Our governor switched the notary division from the Secretary of State (who had been very helpful and supportive) to the Dept of Financial Institutions (They admit they don't know what they are doing). So that effort has slowed down.
His connections were incredible. Fred Risser was the President of the Senate for yrs and Dick and his wife used to go dancing with Fred and wife every Tuesday night. Fred made several efforts at introducing notary law changes.... but you know politics. Dick was also the first Coldwell Banker in WI and was still active as a realtor to the end. Last week he was trying to update all his notary information with the network, but was having trouble seeing.
As one of our members said, he was "salty" and to the point. He mentored us and who knows how many realtors over the years. I am not sure how old this proud Marine was, in his 80's, but I do know he was living like he had much more time. I had planned to stop and see him on my way home from the east side of the state and just knew it was going to be a good lively visit. I, for one will miss him immensely.

Zana - I believe he would be 85 in May. An e-mail he sent me last year said he was stubborn enough to make it 10 more years (although he had been told 3 years on the outside) and that would put him at 93. So he would have been 83 then and 84 May 2nd.

Saddened. He was such a cool guy.

He was emailing us all until nearly the very end, wasn't he? Bless him and his family.
