Shocked and appalled
Called the BO to confirm appt and she tells me this absolute horror story. Seems they were scheduled to close at a Chase Branch last week and the notary shows up with their docs. The BO is inquisitive and finds out the notary is not really a notary at all, but a friend of the notary who was hired for the job. BO, being law enforcement and knowing right from wrong, freaks out, stops closing, but worst of all, the “friend” manages to walk out with all their documents. BO runs name of “friend” in database and finds out “friend” has legal issues of a financial nature. Of course, BO is worried about identity theft. I just can’t believe this took place. This from a notary who’s been in the biz for over 10 years. Disgusting!

Despite all the required background checks, this notary apparently slipped through the cracks. Chase is using the lowest of the low SSs (imagine that!) to save a few bucks on notary fees. Then that SS calls a notary with legal issues who also sees no problem sending a nonnotary to conduct the signings. (This scenario firms my resolve to never allow a mobile notary to conduct the signing for any loan I'd ever take out. How sad is that?).
Anyway, if I were this BO, I'd be at a lawyer's office about now. I mean how many things are wrong (illegal) with this picture? I'd be starting with the notary regulation office and working my way up to Chase who allowed this to happen.

Come on GOLDGIRL, I'd do a loan for you for nothing.

The Chase LO confirmed that this has escalated to the highest levels. This notary will be hearing from the District Attorney very soon. Goodbye commission.

Quite an amazing story! I wonder how frequently it happens!

Exactly, Justin. That's another component to this mess. Chase and the TC are now checking this notary's prior closings to determine if any fraud took place. What a cluster.

"Chase is using the lowest of the low SSs to save a few bucks" Just goes to show, you get what you pay for.
