This job really is NOT that hard...
In the last 2 weeks I've been the second Notary as part of dual signings. Both times I've just had to laugh at the poor performance by the previous Notaries.
Here is a sample of their lack of attention to the one job they have...

I, for one, truly take exception to this "trained monkey"
statement. No, a trained monkey cannot do this job if the job is done properly and completely.
Sentiments like this are what help erode this profession.

Re: A trained monkey can do our job!
I think you've just sabotaged your credibility. If that's all you can say about this profession, then I tihnk it's time for a career change.
Yesterday I had six signings. My first one was for a refi for Bank of the West, three borrowers, vested, the Loan Officer was present. There were so many little details for this commercial loan product, I'm pretty sure no trained monkey would have known what to do.
My second signing was for Merrill Lynch $2Million refi, borrower and wife, physicians. No way would ML send a trained monkey to their mega estate in Montecito.
Okay, I had a couple of quickens and patched a signing that needed prior to funding conditions. Easy peasy
My final signing was POA, four borrowers, one 84 years old. The detail on this Wells Fargo refi for SB property, 144 pages, was no cake walk. I came straight home, put on my flannels and at an avocado, drank a glass of water and lights out.
One thing I know, Mung, I am no trained monkey and when it comes to damage control, I do it.
I'm appalled that you think only trained monkeys can do our jobs.

Speaking of apologies, Mung, you need to retract this statement and make a HUGE humble apology to this community!

Considering the apparent skill it takes to be President, Vice President, or a member of Congress, I’d say a good NSA needs more skills and intelligence than any of those jobs require. JMO

Those are some very bad errors and extremely sloppy. Is this your website showing what you actually had been the second notary to?
These are the notaries that get offered and take the $65 offers.

Let's be honest, most jobs are difficult when you are new at
them. Assuming you have a good base knowledge of what you are doing, you gain experience in dealing wth the SS, borrowers, etc. you become more comfortable. You keep up with the changes required of you by the different SS or Title companies and of course the laws of your State. Then the job is relatively easy. Dealing with the "stuff" that has nothing to do with the "real" job ... late docs, irate borrowers, unreasonable customer service people, now that takes talent. As we all say IMO.

Our job can be diffcult. No 2 loans are ever the same. Attention to detail is paramount, and understanding what docs are that Bos must sign. Some are quick 15 mins. Some closings take an hour or more. Some are HARP, some are streamline, reverse, etc. I've closed small loans to 7 figure loans - They were network tv executives. You bet the hiring entities want a seasoned professional for their huge loans. Really a disgrace that you feel a trained monkey can do our jobs.

I agree that those errors are pretty bad. The Georgia package appears to be an LSI loan - Georgia is an attorney state so *presumably* the notary was an attorney. But (at least in my area) LSI tries to pay as little as possible, so there you go. As far as I know, the notary can act as a witness in GA.
It took me a while to figure it out, but on the GA documents you posted, I think the state is changed to "GA" and then the notary initialed after that. It's all run together so at first look it was not clear to me what state it was supposed to be. It doesn't help that the hand writing is not the most clear. I always used block letters so my printing is clear and there is no mystery as to what my writing says.
I have found that MANY notaries will write the notary name where the signer's name is supposed to be in the certificate, or vice versa. My son recently had his signature notarized on a DMV document by a friend's mom - she put her own name where my son's name should have been in the certificate. We had to re-do.
And as to the trained monkey comment - I took it as a joke. How many times have we heard notaries say that signing services think that any trained money can do our job? I think Mung was alluding to that.

I recall that several years ago ...
... an executive with the horrible ... yikes, cant remember the SSs name right now, but they were located in Prairie Village, Kansas ... posted on NR about what losers we all were, saying any "monkey" could do our job.
Anybody else remember this?

It was Nations Signature Closers ...
in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and the exec's name was Lance Lopez.
Can't seem to find his "monkey" post, but there are plenty of other "notaries are losers" posts by him.

I found "monkey" references going all the way back
to 2006 by various people... quite a trip down memory lane remembering some of the posters.
I remember Lance though - that was quite a furor
