Threats of lowering fee

Why are there more and more instructions saying that if you do this we will cut your fee, if you don't do that we will cut your fee but nothing that says when you catch our mistakes we will increase your fee? Just saying....

This bothers me as well. I just generally don't like to be threatened at all. It's almost as if they're LOOKING for mistakes. I had someone tell me yesterday that my fax-backs weren't complete. They were asking for documents that weren't even in the package. They also mentioned that I "forgot" to notarize a few documents, and I use an embosser. Geesh.

Those companies I dont work for. Usually a sign of a lowballer, hand holders, and always trying to find something wrong.

Actually, the last two have been 4 and 5 star companies as I don't work for lowballers, etc.

I ALWAYS inform hiring party I do NOT accept fee reductions. If I make an error I will correct it on my own dime.

I'm getting more and more of the same stuff? I finally pushed back to one of my better clients with:

I do not accept signing appointments when there are penalties, reduction of signing fees and/or threats of nonpayment of fees because the borrower cannot or will not provide documentation requested or required by the lender.

NOTE: Many times the borrower is unable to comply with lender's instructions to provide items such as those listed in the "Notary Check List" or comply with the lender's requirements.

Under such above circumstances, it is advisable to reschedule the application appointment to a later date & time in order for the notary to send a complete file or proceed to the appointment?

I don't threaten to lower the plumber's fee. I don't threaten to lower the mechanic's fee. I don't threaten to lower the hairdresser's fee. In fact, if they do make a mistake, they fix it. Sometimes they expect and deserve a tip! What industry lowers a fee because someone's nose is out of joint? There are so many middlemen in this industry that there is no way they should be making those threats to us. How many times have we had to wait for docs? The mechanic can wait for a part to come in or send someone after it. I have no one to depend upon except myself and maybe ask a family member to go to the store for more toner.

I have not had a problem myself with these "threats" but I have seen them in the paperwork. The companies I have worked for have been very good, and many of them have paid right away. I agree that the industry needs to find other ways to insure quality service.

Re: I only had one 3+ star SS that consistently

dinged me (with cause - but very picky stuff). I raised my fee to them to compensate and now never hear from them. So I lost a SS that quoted a fair fee but never paid it - maybe not so bad.
