UPS and Saturday drops
There was some discussion on the forum earlier about UPS stores levying a surcharge for Saturday drops. I have checked with my closes UPS store, and they know nothing of such a charge. Could it be mail box-type stores that are doing this?

I have a customer that does not want packages dropped on Saturday because they will be charged Saturday fees. I assumed it was a UPS thing, but maybe it is a store by store fee being charged? I would be interested to know this as well. Thanks for bringing it up

I am an independent notary, however I have customers that get deals across Texas which I outsource from time to time.

Same here - "please don't drop on Sat. as we incur $20 fee on top of what we are already paying."

Same thing with me today Hugh - I had a dropoff
at the UPS Store - asked the guy about it - he never heard of it.
What he DID say was it may be something they, the store, would not necessarily be told anything about anyway - it's something that may be dealt with strictly between UPS and the entity whose account is billed.
So maybe we should let companies know as we come across them- Give them a hint and have them check with UPS themselves.

Re: Same thing with me today Hugh - I had a dropoff
TC's caught this when reviewing the bills, we would of caught this too. If something cost X amount 99% of the time and suddenly it cost XX you find out why.
Trust me smaller companies will spot the additional charges sooner, big companies it may take time or they just eat the cost.
Hey no more Saturday UPS store visits for the companies that told me to just use a box. First time funding is delayed I am sure that will change again. I just do what I am told.

Re: Who Lives Under A Rock?
There is no "drop charge" on Saturdays - There is a DELIVERY surcharge for Saturday deliveries. How long have you people been using UPS - 3 days? That's why they use a nice bright orange sticker saying "Saturday Delivery." Anyone with a brain knows that Saturdays are NOT a regular delivery day for UPS. However, in certain cases, companies authorize a Saturday Delivery Charge when they urgently need the documents back ASAP.
If real signing agents would get a UPS account, or even bother to read the UPS rate sheets, you would already know that yes, there is an additional fee for Saturday DELIVERY. There is NO "Drop Charge" for dropping off docs on Saturday. Sheesh.

Gee, Ralph - evidently we report what we hear from CLIENTS
CLIENTS who pay us - who ask us to perform in a certain manner. Most of us already know about the delivery charge for Saturday. According to my client, they are now charged for drop offs in a UPS facility on Saturdays if it is to move beyond the counter.
Should I ask them if they live under a rock? Should I offer them the rate sheets? Or should I do as they ask and then see if others are getting the same info (which I am not the only one - others are reporting the same issue)? Could this be a new charge? Like a sur-charge for gas for example?
However it shakes out, it is my client and my check that is affected. I choose to follow so that my check is not dinged. You may also if or when your client requests the same from you. Or, perhaps, you will ask them if they live under a rock.

Supposition, I live in an area that has two 24/7 FedEx locations, one closer than the other to me. If I do a Friday signing and get there after the last drop off time for Friday and still leave it to go out on Saturday, would you consider this a Saturday drop-off?

It would be after Fri. cut off time - so ???
I was specifically asked if I could beat Fri. cut off time, which with 4pm signing if on time and not a reader, I could with no problems.

Ralph is far too busy patting himself on the back ...
... for being able to buy clean underwear with his notary income that he really doesn't have time to make sure he knows what he's talking about when he spouts. It is awfully time-consuming to have to set other people straight all the time about how much smarter you are than they are.

Re: Obviously you do no research of your own
Here's the deal. Instead of listening to gibberish, you need to do your own research.
Some UPS stores are franchises and others are not.
What regulates your $15 charge is whether or not the store has a REGULAR SATURDAY PICKUP.
If the UPS store you use DOES NOT have a REGULAR SATURDAY PICKUP the operator of that store can call the center and request a pickup. The operator CAN (if he or she wants to) charge $15 per package for anything shipping on Saturday. There is a little deal between the store and the center which varies by area. They have to run a truck out and it costs money, so it makes sense.
If the store has a REGULAR SATURDAY PICKUP and you get your package there prior to pickup time then there is NO CHARGE.
The client may not wish to incur the $15 charge if you live in the boondocks or the great dustbowl and that's understandable. Use your lips and ASK the UPS Store operator if he /she has a REGULAR SATURDAY PICKUP. If they TRY to charge you $15.00 and they have a REGULAR SATURDAY PICKUP and you get it there prior to that pickup, then you need to call the UPS Regional Manager for your area. Ask him/her what's going on because that's not approved.
Try doing your own research for a change, instead of putting questions on here that you want someone else to answer because you don't want to spend the time. You'll usually get meaningless answers anyway and then someone else will boo-hoo because the evil notary suggested you get off your rear and do your own research. The questions posed recently here are the most inane I've ever read and some of the answers are just as ridiculous. People who won't research on their own are ruining this profession.

Ralph...has it occurred to you that YOU may be
living under a rock? Perhaps you haven't heard of this new little wrinkle in UPS service? It was posted about the other day.
Yes, there's ALWAYS been an extra charge for Saturday delivery - but now there appears to be a new charge for Saturday dropoff. And I know, in my area, the UPS pickup schedule has been curtailed significantly..I'm thinking the UPS weekend pickups may be going the way of the dinosaur to save money.
There was no need for your usual sarcasm here.

Re: Ralph...has it occurred to you that YOU may be
If Ralph had read the excerpt from UPS guidelines, he would have seen they charge $15 for Saturday Pick Up from their retail locations. Since all of the UPS stores are franchises, they are considered retail outlets. UPS Hubs and sorting facilities are closed to the public on Saturdays in the DC/NOVA area, so I'm assuming that's pretty much everywhere.
Our UPS stores here do not even stock supplies, but they are more than willing to sell you an shipping envelope for $5.95.
FedEX stations are at least open to drop off on Saturdays.

In my area, the ONE UPS store we have is open on
Saturday..according to the website ground does not ship out on Saturday...only air - UPS does not pick up from our ONE local pack-n-ship at all on Saturday.. The operator has been very nice and the one or two times I have to ask for supplies he has accommodated me.
We have NO FedEx dropoff spots on Saturday except the one pack-n-ship - and FedEx drops have to be there before 11:00
AND - it's a minimum 15 miles drive to any dropbox; NO boxes are collected on weekends.

I should clarify this...the "operator" I was speaking of
is the UPS Store owner/manager/whatever they call them - he's always been very nice and accommodating in giving me supplies.
