Just Venting
It seems there have been more SS "sharks" this last month---that is SS playing a game to get the lowest rate.
The SS (signing services, for the newbies) have been scheduling appointments then canceling hours (or a couple of days) later just to call back "day of" appointment to reschedule. I know they're playing the "find-the-lowest-signing-rate" game. It's frustrating because my time is wasted playing this stupid game.
Yesterday, I received a call for a refi of about 150 pages with fax-back for a whopping $40. The SS's justification was that the loan package will be mailed to the borrower. I explained $40 doesn't even cover my own expenses plus a minimum wage. After verifying that I would NOT accept this fee, the rep said "thanks" and hung up.
I am fairly new at this, but I have done enough closings and have enough business acumen to know this is unbelievably insulting. This isn't even a "low ball" offer. This is total disregard for an even exchange of services. I am not some uneducated high schooler or some brainless fool who is careless about my job.
Are you experiencing this trend? Does anyone know companies who care enough about their reputation to pay a worthy fee for smart and knowledgeable NSAs?

OMG!
This is worse than I thought! Good for you to recognize this appalling ripoff for what it is. This is a trend that's been going on for a looooong time. Unfortunately, there are many knucklehead NSAs out there who don't have your business acumen and think they *have* to take the job because that's just the way the market is. Sadly, the more the low-ballers get away with, the more it tells the good hiring agencies they, too, can lower their fees ... and the downward cycle continues.
As has been posted here many times, market yourself to only the 4 and 5 star SSs listed in SC and say no thank you to the rest.
BTW: At least the $40 scheduler said "thanks"; most just slam the phone down in their breathless quest to find the cheapest, most gullible notary out there.

Re: OMG!
This was one of those 4-5 star SSs... THAT was what was so appalling. We have had good experience with them, so this totally surprised me.
I would rather NOT have the job than lose money to close a loan for them---especially when there is no loyalty or appreciation of one's hard-earned skills.

Re: OMG!
I find the same thing happening by me. I just can justify going out the door for $40 or $50. I give them my fee and they say, "I'll see if I can get that approved". I hear that and it equals - "I'm looking for a cheaper price". My attitude, so be it but don't come back when they screw up because you get what you pay for! OK, thanks, I'm done venting on that one.

Hmm, just learned something about defaults in Notary Rotary.
I just realized my state is shown as "AK" on the forum. In my profile, the "Package Address" was blank and "AK" is the default state. Everywhere else, my state is listed as "TX".

I'm going to assume that you meant "cannot"...?

Re: SharpMind: If it were me I would go to SC and
rate them with one star. No I did not work for them, however, because their offer is so disgusting they rate a one star for just offering it. And yes, please state who they are. JMHO

I am sorry to keep you hanging all weekend. The company was Nations Direct.
I didn't want to name them because I was hoping this was a fluke. My previous experience had been good. Their loans went smoothly and they paid in a timely manner. I sincerely hoped this was an experiment that will go away.

I kind of figured it was ND.
Their tactics are easy to spot even in someone else's experiences.

Nations Direct is a 2-star SS.
Nations Direct Title has 3-1/2 stars in SC. Regardless, OP keeps referring to the company in question as an SS. Ergo, I take that to mean the 2-star company.
SharpMind, please take to heart the ratings and experiences of others. They're posted for a reason. Save yourself the heartache.

LOL, sure, I'd do a signing for $40. If they have the documents. And bring them to my house. And there's only one signature required. And they'll take them to the drop. And I don't have anything better to do, like maybe wash my hair or watch television. :-)
