Notary Signature Affidavit

I am very new in this field and I can't seem to find a lot of information about this affidavit online. I was sent a "Positive Proof Identification and Notary Signature Affidavit", which was included in the documents that I need to notarize tomorrow. As far as I know I am not allowed to notarize my own signature. What do I do? Skip this page? Fill it out, sign it but don't stamp it? I am based in CA.

Thank you for the help in advance.

You are correct, you cannot notarize your own signature. I usually fill it out, sign it, but do not notarize it. I also include a separate sheet with the package explaining why for those individuals that do not have a clue.

Do as John says, he's right.

Also on a lot of patriot act forms there will be a place for you to sign and a place for you to print your name and title. Your title only goes on notarial certificates period.

I just put a 1 inch square Post It where they have the word "seal" printed on these that says "No can do". If it's a regular client, I don't bother with the sticky, I sign but don't stamp. Never a problem.

Am seeing some similarly titled forms lately that actually have a place for the B to sign this and a real Notary Cert, too!

It depends on the exact wording of the form. I don't recall seeing a form with the exact title you are describing. For the best advice, you would print a blank copy, use a heavy black marker to obscure the name, address, or other information about the signer, and also obscure the name of the bank, title company, or signing service if present. Then scan it, post it to one of the picture hosting sites, and link to it in the forum so forum members can see the exact wording.

I called the company that hired me and I told them I will sign it but will not stamp it. It is amazing that some Signing Agencies being NOTARIES themselves are ignorant about this matter! We don't notarize our own signature in Illinois!

Usually though, the SS's don't have control over the documents let alone know what they actually contain.

I will stamp it and put a diagonal line on the right side of the imprint and write "sample."

This is to JBA. I understand that the Signing Companies don't have a say so on what comes in documents let alone what the documents contain. However, when it the policy of the SS that I go through them about any question I have especially in this case; instead them telling me that they will check and get back to me, like most SS do. They told me to stamp it. And they should know better.

Thank you all for responding. I did fill it out, but did not stamp it.
