About being designated "payee"

Must be my day. Two families from the Senior Citizens Center where I volunteer have ask me to become their designated payee. I don't know them and when I asked, they told me I was recommended as someone they could trust.
If any of you are "payees" for non family members I would like to hear from you because I have a few questions to ask. email me [e-mail address]

I know you said non-family member, but

I was designated payee for my mother's social security checks when her conservatorship/guardianship was established - in CT, conservatrix, in Florida, guardian....I had a separate account set up for the "Me for Estate of Mom" so the money went straight into her account and I handled that account. I had to account to social security for all money they paid her yearly in addition to filing reports with the Probate Court.

Your call whether you want to do this or not - you're accountable for the money.

Re: I know you said non-family member, but

Thanks Linda I wonder if probate court would be involved in this case and what type of reports and how detailed. I'm not into a lot of book keeping. More like this is what you got,....here it is..that's fine with me!

Re: I know you said non-family member, but

SSA reports were one page - they tell you how much they paid to beneficiary for the year, you itemize living expenses, medical expenses etc etc (it's written out) and amount saved - should match amount they paid or exceed amount they paid. Sign as payee rep and submit.

Not your business James - you probably won't get that

information -

I'd be careful of them designating you - if they've appointed an AIF via POA, or have a guardianship or conservatorship in place..this is already done. These people just may not know.

oH you don't know me..I'd have to know that

When I retired back in 97 I sold a 30 unit apartment complex, I knew everything about everybody living there. I'm kinda a control freak when it comes to $$ probably why I've been retired for 17 years so far.
