Good Morning Oklahoma Weather! Iced in (again). Rained
all night and temp holding steady at 32 degs F with black ice on the roads. Icicles about 4 inches long all the trees, shrubs, and flowers are heavy-laden with sheets of ice . . . Photos say it best.
Anyone have golf shoes I can borrow to pick up the mail? teehee

We have heavy heavy rain moving in from OK. No ice yet as we are about 38. Be safe out there.

I bought some of those spikes that you put on over your shoes. Haven't used them yet. My concern is the power lines & tree limbs falling. Ice is heavy!!
By the way, if you use a towel on the surface where you want to walk, it gives traction for getting to the mailbox. Maybe two so you can pick up one while standing on another. Environmentally safe too.

Thanks, Karen! Is it icy in your area, too? Temp still
hovering at 32. Forecast indicated 41 today, crossing my fingers. Bulk of power lines here are underground. Stay warm! Got some cocoa with marshmallows?!!

Kitty litter works just fine for traction on ice.. Back in NY, we would throw a bag of it in the trunk during the winter. Get stuck on ice, just spread it under the wheel and you were good to go...

Be safe out there, Rick! It's 32.9 degs. Road Supervisor
said all roads are passable, but be especially cautious, of course, on bridges/overpasses. Forecast of 41 degs for today and hoping it comes through!
Truly LOVE Karen's 'towel' suggestion for stability! Be Safe!

When I moved from Texas in around 2000, we made it out between two ice storms. Some of the plants did not make it, but we did. I do understand how you feel.

WoW! Sue, that is awesome! How is your weather there
now? Are you close to the Big Sur/Pfeiffer fires? A friend of mine is in the thick of it . . . Be safe.

Re: WoW! Sue, that is awesome! How is your weather there
I live in Sacramento, CA now. I'm in a t shirt now, but have a jacket in the care should it get cool.
The difference between Plano, TX weather in the summer is that Sacto has dry heat whereas Plano has humid heat in the summer. Also, rare snow where I live. Now we want the rain here that is turning to ice and snow in Oklahoma and central/eastern US.
It does get cold here as we got the freeze we needed for the plants and to kill some of the bugs.

A freeze snap is ALWAYS welcome for that! Dreamin of T-shirt
weather. Just returned from a quick signing and the roads are safe, just cautious over bridges. Continues to steadily rain and temp is still hovering at 32 degs. It will be treacherous if the temps drop tonight! :-/

Freezing rain due here
You must be sending it this way, Christine. Warnings about iced roads and power outages here beginning to note and tomorrow. I'd hunker down tomorrow but I have a wedding to perform at noon tomorrow down the road. Glad I have no signings scheduled.

The power lines are heavy-laden here. Roads are clear for now, but continues to steadily rain and temp is still hovering at 32 degs. It will be treacherous if the temps drop tonight! :-/
Hopefully your Wedding to perform 'down the road' is close by. Be safe!

golf shoes won't help you these days - they all have rubber spikes UNLESS you can get a hold of the "old" ones that have the metal spikes. Even at that I would be extremely careful. Hope you are safe.

Man! Yep - I am 'old school' . . . Did not know about the
new rubber cleats! Thanks for the 'heads-up' Monica!

Ice is terrible to deal with. I remember it from the days
of living in PA, and it's happened a couple of times here in SE Virginia. We have the opposite going on here--in the 70's today & close to 80 tomorrow. Weather is so freaky these days. One lesson I learned long ago--no one can drive in ice! Stay safe!

Re: Ice is terrible to deal with. I remember it from the days
In 1964, I spun out on black ice on a bridge on my way to school, my little 1947 red VW bug ended up on its top, I unlatched my lap belt crawled out the window, which I was able to roll down, and realized I had just used one of my nine lives that morning.
A very close call! I had no passengers, thank God.

Cheryl, I bet you meant 1964 VW. Glad you made it okay. You do seem to have multiple lives and an angel on your shoulder. Wishing you a safe and merry Christmas.
