Printer Suggestions - Rec'd conflicting info from the search

Hi Everyone:

I would like everyone's opinion. I am looking to purchase a new color all in one printer. The usage will be for the following: Color documents with a dual tray capability (able to print letter in legal in the same pdf file without have to use a sorter) and duplexing along with being able to scan from an ADF, fax and copy. I should note that it would be used for Realtor(R) purposes as apposed to mortgage packages; although, the amount of pages at a time and document printing/copying volume would be the same along with copying contracts that are roughly 20-30 pages in triplicates. It would also be used to print letterhead along with envelopes and brochures. I would like something that I won't be running to staples or even ordering online every 2 weeks just to purchase ink/toner. I haven't zeroed down whether to go the officejet/ink route or the laser route. My experience is laser is great for heavy usage but not for specialty items such as envelopes, letterhead and brochures. What printer(s) do any of you suggest? Im thinking the HP officeject Pro 8600 (plus its on sale and I don't want to spend more than 4 to 500 dollars if I dont have to) but I guess what is holding me back is how well the ink would last as apposed to laser and if I need to print a mortgage package I won't be able to. I looked on the search feature here but am receiving such a wide range of answer that I figured I should state specifically what I intend to use it for. Any suggestions is kindly appreciated.

Happy Holidays and God Bless!

Re: Printer Suggestions - Rec

I have the HP officejet Pro 8600 and I love it. I may be wrong but as far as I can tell this printer will not print legal and letter without you physically specifying whether to print on letter or legal separately. Good luck with your search.

Re: Printer Suggestions - Rec

Thanks for the information Jenny. How many pages per month do you print using yours? I will be printing roughly 5,000 - 6,000 pages per month. Also do you use yours to print evelopes? If you do, do you have to manual feed each envelope or may you place say 10 in the tray and print 10 at a time. Also when the envelopes print do they tend to crease or fold like they tradtionally do with laser printer or do they print correctly? Thanks for any insight you may provide. Have a wonderful day!

Re: Printer Suggestions - Rec

I use it for the color capability. I have never printed envelopes on this printer. I use it to print shipping labels and business cards. It has a very good and quick scanner. I don't print nearly as much as you would. If you need it for brochures it prints very cleanly. I think after all my research, that if I needed to print in color as much as you do, I would have gone with a color laser. JMO.

Merry Christmas and a great New Year

I purchased an 8600 and ended up returning it

After spending 5+ hours on the phone with out of country HP support I found out it does not have capability of printing multi-sizes within one document. It printed beautifully and while I can't say anything about cost-effectiveness I really wish it would've worked. Even the Staples guy wasn't aware of this. Why would they put the extra tray on and not include the software, I'm at a loss. I know that sometimes at Staples you can take ANY other printer to trade in and get an additional $50 off....even a $5 one from Goodwill. Good luck.

Re: Printer Suggestions - Rec

Going to throw food for thought in here. I also have the 8600 & love it, but if you are looking for a printer for printing the loan docs, Most companies require the use of a Laser Printer.
I would suggest you look at the XEROX WorkCentre 3325.
This does do the auto switching for the paper size., The only drawback I have is that the toner/drum combo is 249.99, but there is an 11,000 page yield * I usually get close to that.
btw, by getting the ink from Xerox, i get lifetime on-site support., very important in this business.

FYI: HP 8600 Not a Laser Printer. The print technology

for the 8600 is Inkjet.

In my experience, all hiring entities REQUIRE the loan docs printed on a Laser printer.

Hope this helps! :-)
