Am I wrong here?
Got a Service Link package through an SS. The account number they gave me for UPS is not working. I am holding to my guns and telling the SS that I will NOT put this on my UPS or FedEx account, I will NOT send the package back without a shipping label.

UPS label
Stick with it and they will send you a label. I had the same problem with another company and they finally emailed a label to me. It seems they didn't know how to determine what number was there account number

Not wrong, IMO.
Why would you even think it's your responsibility to pay to get docs back? Also, why would you even hint you have a courier account?
It's their responsiblity to provide a working/valid return account number or label. If the SS is putting pressure on you, ask them for their account number/label. Or get it in writing from the SS that they will reimburse you for the return fee. (LOL Good luck with that.)
I guarantee that if you foot the bill, you will never see reimbursement. Just sayin ....

Yep, I agree - the only way I would ever pay for shipping is if I included the cost (and a mark up) in my bid for the job.

You are correct but I would take it one step further. I would give UPS the SS name and ask if they had an account, if they did, I would charge it to them, omitting my real name and address so they couldn't charge it back to me.
Lastly, I would ask for the servicelink account number and charge it to them. My thinking is the borrower shouldn't have to suffer because of those AXXes

Re: meant to say "try to bill it to their Acc'ts"
In the past when I worked for SL - they would hold the shipping label "hostage" until faxbacks were received and reviewed. Not sure if that is still their practice - they seemed to have gone off of the deep end lately with their requirements and expectations.

Re: meant to say "try to bill it to their Acc'ts"
To OP: Have SS send you a shipping label. It's up to them to use their own UPS/Fedex account number or hop to it and get label or acc't # from SL.
ServiceLink always sends me shipping label with docs. When fax/scan-backs are required, I ask coordinator if ok to ship immediately after scanning back. Have always been told yes. No need to wait for authorization prior to shipping.
I will say, however, I do scan docs. So, if ever they were to say they didn't receive, I can always send them again as I keep that scan until that invoice is paid.

Am I missing something?
Why do you feel they have to send you a label? Just fill out a label using their UPS# or use their Fed Ex #? FedEx is more convenient for me. If I don't have a label I put their name and address as sender so there is no way for them to charge my account. I think I have a responsibility to get the package out the same day if possible.

forgot to mention
that if a SS hired me, their name and address is used as Sender on the UPS label

Re: forgot to mention.... I don't know about IL but in
my area of Ca UPS will not ship unless it is a pre-printed label.

Yes you are missing the fact that the shipping number they gave me is not valid!

Call Service Link directly & let them know you have one of their pkgs to return & need the correct account #.
Service Link, UPS, and a stubborn SS all at once is a recipe for disaster. Good luck.

I agree, I have their #'s on file. If you don't have them, call them and get it. Good thing they take handwritten labels here. I don't have a UPS or FedEx account.
